View Full Version : Silo 2 Beta Open to All.
Nichod 06-03-2007, 12:32 AM Silo 2 Public Beta 10a is out. Quote on the release:
Just wanted to get that out of the way, to try and cut down on the potential support e-mails. http://www.silo3d.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif This means that we've switched to the new copy protection scheme for 2.0, which will allow for a single code for both the PC and Mac and should generally be better for everyone. Nobody has this code yet, but you can use the demo period which will make it fully-functional until the final release. We'll let you know when we get to the point where we're sending out the new codes to those who get the free upgrade. It won't be right away, as we may need to make some changes to the code system based on results of these betas. This does mean that anybody can download and use the latest beta, not just registered Silo users. Tell your friends.
Now anyone can try it out!

I downloaded the PLE of Silo recently and its a wonderful piece of software. I don't consider myself a modeller, but at £50 for a licence I may take the plunge.

Yeah. It's definitely worth the money. I bought it 6 months ago just to get in on the v2 upgrade and the beta. Best money I've spent in a long while.
I still use C4D as my modeler to keep my workflow lean, but Silo v2's displacement painting tools are extremely handy. In 2GB RAM, you can easily push about 2mil polys.
It may not support the gagillion polys that ZBrush 3 does (yet), but you can get a whole lot out of the displacement tools with a well designed base mesh.
There are still some kinks to be worked out before the v2 final, but those will be ironed out in no time. Silo's got strong, highly ergonomic displacement painting tools with an already well crafted modeling feature set at the core.
Even if you're happy with your 3D tool of choice, Silo is well worth the purchase.

Thanks for posting this. I actually saw it on the Blender forums first, I think, but still, it's a great opportunity.
