Title: Abscond
Name: Lawrence Koh Choon Teck
Country: USA
Software: Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, ZBrush

This is the latest version of my thesis character, Abscond.

I am hoping that I am able to portray the character of my model through its look.

Abscond is a trihybrid of horse, giraffe and frog. It is a cunning creature who often leaves quickly and secretly and hides itself, to avoid arrest or notice after doing wrongs.

Abscond is able to leap high and escape in a sudden manner, esp. to avoid capture. It is able to camouflage itself by changing the color of its skin.

Abscond is modeled in Maya and ZBrush, textured in Maya, rendered with Mental Ray and composited in Photoshop.

Comments are welcome. Thanks.

Cheers.

Hi... Excellent Character.

I have been using Maya for some time and am able to model full characters like the ork from Lord of the Rings. The problem is that they are extremely smooth ... I would like to add some irregular surface aborations and such and would like to know your how you found the Maya to Zbrush workflow... I mean in terms of model export and reimport into Maya ... how do the Zbrush surface changes translate to the maya mesh etc... and where was the lighting done... in Maya's Mental Ray or Zbrush.

Hi,

I am using color map, bump map and specular map inorder to get the texture for my character. You can make the surface less smooth using bump map or 'rough' it in Zbrush by using the draw tool. You can check out www.zbrushcentral.com (http://www.zbrushcentral.com) to know more about Zbrush. The lighting for my character is done in maya.

Hope I am answering your questions.

Cheers
