People may wonder why i concider this FINISHED WORK , well if my pc wouldn't be so slow i could finish the whole mesh :D, but every time i try to render over teh current quantity it blows up in flames :D
SO don't be too pissed at me :D

Could you post the wireframe for us so we can learn from you.

Can you post a low poly wireframe and if possible a render from a different angle?

Plugged you at the front page.

sweet stuff, duno if you could do this, i would like to see wire frames of the face, armor and sword, cause im soon gonna start modeling a drow elf "after finishing concept drawing", some stuff would be useful to see how you did it, i like the designe on the armor.

I looked at the pics at your site and i must say that your facemodeling is outstanding!.

Realy good job:eek:

--if computer get slow it's maybe because you work with spline. So you should setup 3dsmax to get a lower resolution for the polygons calculation.
--And setup your views to have something like when you turn the camera around the object, it shows the scene in wireframe and after moving the camera it comes in plain polys render.
--Use the isolate tool to work on a peace of the mesh. And don't forget to hide some object.
--At worse work sith referenced files by putting some element in another scene and draw avatar of them elves in the main scene
-- And because your are a 3dartist, you should try to buy more ram.
Just some advices:beer:

But about the model, it's realy right done:thumbsup: The fact he hasn't legs is interesant too! (even if we know it's a technical problem)

Raul,

Nice modeling of shape & form.

Interpreting & exploring the pose is subjective so this is just my take on it...

Some poses "read" really well, conveying the emotion & situation quickly. Clearly this guy is a bit strange and has thoughts about what he's looking at -- but his intention isn't clear (to me).

First, his left hand shows little effort in holding the sword... his hand is far from the hilt and the spread of the thumb & index finger make it look like he's holding it loosely. [perhaps he's going to bitch-slap us with it ;]

The right hand is positioned forward in space, toward us, and is gnarled up like he wants to scratch the hell out of something. Being located where it is gives the impression action may be emitting from here.

I might pose him like he's threatening to strike, pointing at us; or go with the current look, but have his right hand inspecting the sharpness of the tip of his sword.

Keep it up -- good luck on a new box. ;)

WOOOHOOOO! i got plugged
Thx a lot Sheep Factory :D

I can't reply to each one of you cuz i can't see all your names :D

I am going to provide all that is neccesary in a short while.

NO matter what i try to do when i render any more max crashes, some bug. BUT Warden HIT the bullseye :D, too much detils. The whole thing now has 300.000 or more.. can;t remember :D

It takes me 5 days to model a head another 5 to 7 to make the body and i'd say 4 days to stylize, but school is always eating up all my time. i work bout 6 hrs/day so...

for the people interested in the tuts, i am NOT making a tut, i was going to but something stopped me from doing so.

Adrian - thx bud :D

Jed - what you yappin bout man!? you're in the damn BRAZIL gallery :D

Awesome talent. Please do your best to stay humble though, its easy to get too cocky with all the raves... :D

One more tip about how to get your 3D app faster: crank up the thread priority in Task Manager to Above Normal. This could make a big difference, especially if you have lots of "system tray dirt" going on. This way, 3dsmax / Maya / LW will be favorized by the cpu. I assume you have a decent OS (win2k / XP, you need one of these to affect thread priority.

Hey

Nibo, well this is what i was afraid off. People would think that i am the bad guy here, ruining everybody's chance of looking at how Raul worx. Well, if you followed the 3dtotal thread, then you wil know that i am not to blame. I think that Raul is getting me back like this, telling that i ruined the tut, just because i gave some comment that wasn't unfair.

So, please don't start to hate me, because it was not my fault.

From the scraps I gathered from these few posts, you angered Raul, and that that's the reason why he didn't make a tut. In other words, if you didn't made him angry, there would be an tutorial.

How can it not be your fault?

Hey Raul

I like the general, very good personality, nice anatomy detail and stuff, in other works it rox. But how the hell can you spend 6 hours a day on cg, i only have 2 i can spend :surprised

So, it is a very good model, but i think that it could even be bether if you made the arms a bit more detailed, i mean the muscles. The armor is fantastic, love the detail.

And for god sakes, finish this one ok :D:D:D:D, seen to many unfinished things by you ;)

Cool stuff. :D Maybe you can texture it? Textures don't have an effect on the amount of faces.
A tutorial is nice but not necessary. This tutorial is good enough to learn the basics of boxmodelling. Use your own imagination! http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.asp Maybe you can post a wire?
Comment: The muscles between the chest and the arms are a little bit unnatural

He bro! Imo I think the second pose is the best.
He's really concentrating and prepering for the battle. hehe
1 crit maybe: In the first pic you can very clearly see that the arm-armor has a sharp edge. It's like it's sliced. Maybe make a little bit of a rounding there, so it doesn't look that chopped.
In pose 2, you deleted the leftarm-armor I guess, so there's no problem.
Anyway.....keep rock'n :airguitar

Just figured it out! He reminds me of the major baddie in Mortal Kombat 1! The same guy who will be forever type casted as an evil villain (played in the Phantom among other movies)....what is his name?!? Ah well, at least I have that outta my head, it would have bugged me all night. C-ya Raul.

great work! however, some small adjustements I would recommend would be to adjust the light down just a teeny weeny notch, and turn down the grain just a little bit.

not much, just some tiny things that I *think* will make it look even better!

GREAT work man, keep it up! :buttrock:

The Battle for Peace

“The old cathedral was empty and abandond. It had seen many events accure during it’s 2000 years of existence, but this one would be surtenly the greates of all. A massiv battleground had been shaped in the presence of this holy cathedral, like it had never been seen before.
But even this holy relic, the symbol of hope and peace has become a victim of hatred and war. It looked cumbled, not only from within, but also on the outside, like and old man waiting for his final day to come. Many bricks and pillars were destroyed and layed scattered on the floor. The glory and beuity it once new had flown away, like a summer breeze that liftes you from your dreams for only a mere second, before it puts you back to harsch reality that is your life.
That was exactly the way the General feeled. He was the greatest of fighters, many battles had been won because of his strengt and determination. But even he didn’t know how this fight was going to turn out. Was this going to be his last fight? Was he to be given a simular faith as many of his enemies had experienced? A gruwsome death that no living being could possibly wish and phantom. Even he, with all his wisdom and experience didn’t know the outcome this time. But he had to be strong, to give that strength to his soldiers so that they could march our of this war as the victors. But only God would know the outcome in such unpredicteble times like these. Was he destined for a greater cause, by proving on this planet that he was the strongest of fighters? Or was God sick of his battles and the pains he caused?
Not a day went bye when he thought of the enemies and insonent people that had fallen by decisions he had made. Many had died because of his faults or because he pushed his enemies to far. He could still here the screams, see the tears and misserie when the battle had endend and thefog dissapeerd. Only death and decay was what remainded. Families torn away buildings destroyed. And for what purpose? To prove who was the greatest? To prove that one was more worthy than others? How useless it seemed to him now. He would undo it in an instance if the oppurtunity was given, but he knew that even his deity wouldn’t grand him this. This was the burden of his life, he had to learn and live with it. There was nothing that he could do, but to revenge the innocent victims that had fallen because of him. Let God be at his side when he rid the world of all this evil.
In a flah the light inside the room brightened, bringing warmth but also hope. The general looked at the statue as it began to glow and showing the beauty of it, even when it was wrecked by the battle. The statue radiated life and strength at the same time, like it was telling the General wat it had always known. His God was truly at his side and whith that knowledge hel left to prepare him self for the greatest battle in the history of mankind. The battle for Peace. “

Hey dudes

Well as you might have read, I made a little story at the two pictures that Raul posted, These pictures should in my opinion be combined in some manner, like in my story. Even so, these pictures inspired me with with much creativity and in my opinion, every picture that can do such a thing worked out great. And I don’t mean just technically, but m,uch more artistically.
So, Raul, I hope I don’t spoil your vision of this dude, but that’s just the way I see it.

I modified the images as you asked, but much had already been done by you. The lightning was definitely improved, showing that you also have a great deal of experience in that area. Still, I took the liberty of making some very slight adjustements at the lightning area. Alo I made the DOF effect that you asked for. Still, I think that somebody else had could done this way bether( probably you :D:D).Even so, it feld nice to be a small part of this great image.

I am surtain that it will get the award that it already deserved( if not, than lildragon will have to hide in his lil shell :D:D)

Hey ChandlerL

About how I did it?? Well it was done in Photoshop yes. I used the lightning effects filter to ad more light to the picture. Then I used Gausian Blur to blur everything.
Then I made an alpha map and directed the blur and lightning were I wanted it, by making the Alpha Map black at some points or gray. For further info, you should visit www.3dtotal.com. There you can find a great tutorial that I used to learn such things. It’s in the photoshop section.

I have made a modification of the image adding more contrast, giving more intensity t the whites magnifying them with a gaussian blur (apart of the contrast), and desaturating it a bit and a soft motion blur in direction to the window. It r0000000led, try urself.

Anyway, pure 3D is what I prefer, great job, amazing job.

Could we get a poster?? :bounce:

I'd really hate to turn this thread into a
"try your best shot at postworking Raul's picture"-one
but I think Raul meant something more like this:

http://www.stungun.nl/FAITH_stunguntry.jpg

getting more of that 'eerie' feeling into the picture
hope my try didn't bother too much of you :D

Hi Raul..........:wavey:

Excellent.Really in the higher end district for work being put out today. There are always some taste issues, but in the end,it's top notch work.Very in-depth,I like it when people take the 'Non shortcut" avenue, such as you have. Very nice piece of work.....
