Hey all.

Max 3D Max user & AE.
I'm looking to really get into compositing and speeding up my workflow with post work. The one thing I never really learned in school, we kinda jumped around a few topics. I'm entirely too used to just rendering everything in one pass of tga's then putting them together in AE. I'm willing to pay (a reasonable amt.) for a couple of solid DVD's and a couple weeks night time to go through and get this embedded in my skull.

I generally know how to split up the passes in Max, but I wouldn't mind getting one or two DVD's that went thru most of the basics and intermediate steps so I can pick up everything without skipping pass something I THINK I might know.

Ideally, I'd want a DVD that basically said...this is how/why you want/need to split your passes. Then on the same DVD or possibly a second that went thru using the same passes in AE showing how to comp everything to the final image.

One thing I do know I want is the Video Copilot/Creative Cow SeriousFX vid. Man that looks awesome since I want to start integrating some live footage FX work into my 3D.

Maya based, but anyway still a tutorial for compositing multipasses from mental ray in AE.

Gary Mayer, Autodesk uber trainer and author of Combustion Quick Start is doing a series of courses on mental ray and 3dsMax for compositing over at FXPHD. He also had some free links on the Autodesk site about his multipass workflow, but he was compositing in Combustion, I think there is some other folks that are doing similar stuff from the max end

DISCLAIMER : I also work there so I am not trying to sell stuff to you.

Thanks for the link.

I went ahead and tested my knowledge with a real quick scene with muliple layers, I can do the basic compositing with most layers just the more advanced stuff I can't to. I did find a couple of DVD's to learn some more of the advanced stuff.
