darklopium83
06-18-2007, 04:05 PM
yeah the motion blur is a little strong but i want this effect to make a sensation of speed, the img without blur is really static i don't like it...
but great observation thks man!

I think it could do with more motion Blur. Looking good tho.

KrakenCMT
06-18-2007, 05:29 PM
Looks great so far! Though, it looks that your blur is radiating from the exact center of the image. You may want to offset it from center unless the pod will be coming straight at the viewer head on. I think it would be more a more interesting composition at an angle between head on and a 3/4 perspective. Just a suggestion.

you're right man the blur is radiating from the center of the img, it was just a test not a final screen and i'll corrige this later, and the angle is this because the 3/4 perspective cannot be rendered,my computer refuse to calculate the displace with this angle i'm disapointed i don't have enought RAM, but this angle is also great i like the cam on the floor...
if i could i'll make a render in 3/4 but not sure!

thks for your support, what flames are you talking? the electric arc of electricity?
if it's that it was made with an AE plugin "delirium", i can do this with mask glow etcc but it's too long and i have to do all the environement i don't have much time...

Considering you have a scene where a vehicle is moving at an insane speed of 300-400 mph, I really think you should render widescreen with mountains and rocks futher away from the vehicle. You could have the pod making a turn towards a canyon in the distance or something. There's some really cool things you could do with composition if you have more distance in the horizon, including adding a sky, which would give your pod more room to breathe in.

You could also separate your scene in foreground and background details, which would mean that rocks closer to the vehicle would be more blurred than the mountains far away in the horizon. It would really give your scene quite a nice balance in terms of composition.

Looks good.
good luck with the render

darklopium83
06-19-2007, 08:35 AM
thks to all for your councils, i don't like this angle too, i have some idea and i'll make test to see what i prefer, i want an horizon as you says "yav", it will be good with this and will give an idea of depth of field...i have also made some rocks with diferents forms, you'll see them in the journey i think...

darklopium83
06-19-2007, 03:27 PM
i just finish to compose my scene in my maya with my render layers but i don't have any ram to render my scene, i'll try on an other pc at my school if i can, i post just a screencaps of it here:
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8879/screencapsoj5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

all the rocks in the foreground was made in maya and the details in zbush 3.0 but it refuse to give me displace map, he don't calculate her...

This angle is alot better!! But your model is sooo nice, and I mean... Like, really nice! But in the latest renders you can hardly see anything of it! Right now it could have been done with just a few polys and a simple texturemap and that's not what it should look like!!

Airflow
06-19-2007, 10:13 PM
I dunno, the quality of the motion blur isnt great, and the shadow looks weird as the pod is already in shadow....
Is coming together though.

octopus7
06-19-2007, 10:19 PM
Looks great but it's a shame after all the cool detail work you put into the pod-racer is lost because it's blurry. maybe you could sharpen up the racer and have the scenery blurred. So all that great modelling / texturing doesn't go to waste.

Boone
06-19-2007, 10:31 PM
I think its smashing. Top job, mate.

In the end, you'll have to do wireframe renders of the model etc so we'll all get to see the detail anyway...

Yav
06-20-2007, 05:17 AM
I agree with what everyone else said. Too much motion blur in the scene. If I were you, I'd render widescreen with the vehicle shown from the side, meaning your viewers would be able to see it in all its glory.

It's good, but not perfect in my humble opinion. Your model is very good and it's a pity that in the final render we can only see it from the front. I really think you should've rendered in a widescreen frame with the camera looking at your model from the side. I also think some parts of your render should not have motion blur. Your render at the moment looks like a frame from a fast-paced animation sequence, rather than an actual finished picture.

RedRepublik
06-22-2007, 10:43 PM
i agree with yav. you have all the right components for a great entry, but the final presentation doesn't show them off. i would rather see a side shot or a top down or 3 quarters view. if i had never seen episode I, i would have no idea what type of contraption this is because of the camera placement and motion blur. how about something like this?

John-S
06-23-2007, 12:15 AM
I agree with the others. You have a fantastic model but the scene is letting it down. You can't see any detail of the model it just looks like a blurry screenshot of a video game when you have the odvious talent to make it look like a photorealistic star wars scene.

Show off your modeling skills with the shot since this is a "hardcore" modeling challenge and your model is certainly "hardcore" skills...

(all stated in the kindness of ways...)

Basically what everyone else has said. you've lost all of your modelling details in that render. Show them off ...

A clear sharp render of the pod, with a blurred background to convey speed. Only problem is there's no pilot is there ???

darklopium83
06-23-2007, 11:21 AM
lol yes there is not pilot i didn't have the time to do it, but if i can i'll do him...
i'm making an other scene with an another angle...
see u next!

Boone
06-23-2007, 12:34 PM
Yeah, but on the other hand we have to produce renders in addition to a swanky version, renders that displays the detail anyway. I personally feel that this captures the drama very well, and even in the films you miss most of the detail anyway if you freeze-frame them. Just save the high detail for the other renders.

But I could be wrong. It would be nice if Roberto Ortiz could clarify this for us.:)

darklopium83
06-25-2007, 12:07 PM

Getting better : )

I don't know enough about blur or scene setup to help you any but it seems to me that the blur should be more controled in some areas instead of everything being blurred.

Glad too see your efforts continuing. I can now see alot of the detail again

***added***
Maybe if the foreground around the whole cave area and vehicle was clear and the background behind the vehicle was blurred...

darklopium83
06-25-2007, 05:43 PM
thks for your support, not easy to make a scene with so little time, and even less with this beautifull weather (i'm near ST tropez...)!!
the blur is not the same in all the parts of my scene, and you can see that the pod is not really blurred, just the edge...
the rocks on the first plane is blurred because is near the cam., it is thus logical that it is it..i think..
and the blurr was made in photoshop, not in 3D, all my scene is separate in diferent parts and my computer refuse to make a blur in maya, is to heavy to calculate...

wanders
06-25-2007, 05:51 PM
Generally it would be the reverse. Blur in the foreground scene and not in the distance. When you drive down the road and look to the side, the stuff closer appears to move faster. You could probably get away with getting rid of the motion blur entirely on the pod and have it greatly reduced in the distance of the scene. This would give the illusion the camera is moving with the pod, perhaps a view from another racer?

greekdish
06-25-2007, 06:26 PM
The last pic now looks like just a blurred background. With motion blur....closest objects are most blurred, and furthest away objects are less blurred due to perspective....and the furthest objects dont move across the lens as fast, so thus, the rock formations in the background would be less blurred than the overhang...and the overhang formation needs to be alot more blurred.

http://www.dvdbits.com/articles/demoscenes/images/podrace.jpg

Norman3D
06-25-2007, 08:45 PM
The blur also depends if it's a moving or a static camera. If you want to replicate a static camera, there should be no motion blur at all! Just on the pod. But if the camera is moving with the pod... then _it_ shouldn't be blurred. Just the enviorement.
In my opinion your render looks much better, but it's too blurred. I guess you should replicate a moving camera, therefore you should take the above screencapture as a reference. :)

Sorry for my crappy english.

darklopium83
06-25-2007, 09:35 PM
ok i understand what you said but if you look with attention you can see that only the environement is blurred, maybe a little bit to much...i have see the creens of the module race and when the cam. follows the pod is a little bit blurred and the environement is more...is what i ahve reproduced.

shahabp
06-25-2007, 11:16 PM
looks good
I think if you render Bg and the Pod-racer in different layers and then composite it, you will get a much more better result.
Unfortunately the details on the pod-racer should be sacrificed to look right, and its
layer should get motion blur ( not as much as the BG layer).
and I guess the BG layer needs more motion blur.

darklopium83
06-26-2007, 09:34 AM
all the elements were render in diferents layers, the pod has one, the floor on an other etc...
i don't really blurred the pod, only the edge, and the background is a little less blurred than the foreground...
i'll rework on it and see what i can do..

darklopium83
06-26-2007, 10:45 AM
i just have made a new screen i have more blurred the "arc rock" et the foreground, the pod is lossless blurred and also the background...just a little color correction and here is my screen:

The models great the scenerys great, the camera angles a little off tho with the blur, its a shame because all the ingredients are there.

As Yav said a page or so a go the angle from the side more will encapsulate more of your model and keep the detail in better. You could still have a little blur but not as much to affect your final shot.

:)

GuanoLad
06-29-2007, 11:16 AM
The motion blur is going in the wrong direction. If you imagine the camera is following the pod racer as it flies by, then the blur should follow that same line. You've got it going off in a different angle to the flightpath, which just doesn't work. Plus, the composition isn't very good.

The low angle you had in your original image is a better view, I think - so my suggestion is to place the camera lower, but the same 3/4 angle, and position everything a little further through and away from the arch. Sort of something like this:

darklopium83
07-07-2007, 07:44 PM
