I realized that I didn't really have any characters for my reel, so I started on this a couple of days ago. Most of the time has been spent on the head so far, but hopefully by the end of the week the rest of the body will come together. Then I'm planning on putting in a ring and a little blood + sweat for good measure.

There is a small amount of Final Gathering in this image. and no sub-surface scattering (at least until Softimage releases their SSS shader for XSI).

Pikey eh? Any particular reason why he's called that?

On to the crits - the first thing I noticed is that how the ear is attached to the head doesn't look quite right - I don't really know what to suggest as a fix though. I think the texture on the lips could be a few shades darker in red - they look a bit pasty at the moment. The only other thing I can mention is that the butt cheeks look like one big mass rather than two separate masses at the moment - other than that - looks excellent!

You're right, I'll have to spend some more time on the ear because something looks off about it. I darkened the lips a little and played around with the speculars. I still need to do a separate map to control the softness/oilyness of the highlight.

that line going down from the shoulderblades right down to his butt looks a bit unnatural. i think it mostly stops a bit above the butt, and then starts again.. if you know what i mean..

there are two subsurfacescattering thingys for XSI which fake it. i dont know if you had a look at them yet, and i dont know how suited they are for skin.
