I agree with erilaz, but I'm sure a bulk of us ae users have wittnessed this happening with plugins not working. Rather doing what they are supposed to do, instead turn the clip to a solid red color. Don't know if that is what matt had trouble with. But most of the time that has to do with plugins needing to refrence things and simply the object is no there or a matte or layer to be affected is not selected, or a filter which should be applied to a pre-comped layer with plugins inside to be proccessed before the said plug-in is applied to the layer with the other filters already applied causing filters to not proccess through in the linear fashion which is ae's proccessing.
