I modelled this root structure (max 9) and am now clueless on how to uvw it. I don't have a lot of solid background in uvw's so most of what I know is sketchy. Thanks for looking and any comments are of course, super appreciated :)

I've thought that maybe pelt mapping might be the solution, but I think it will be a ton of work, and if someone knows an easier solution... well.... :)

Thanks folks!

Im no expert but I would just make a base-generic texture just put the whole map on it. Like fill the image with what looks like the material of the root and then just let it UVW take what it needs if you understand me.

hi, on ur place i would use Deep UV from Hemishere...that model is quite difficult and that program is best solution for that i think....i use this prog everytime i need to unwrap model its VERY EASY and VERY FAST dont spend days with unwraping when u can do it in 15min so try it and enjoy

i got an great tutorial for DeepUV take a look http://www.zivcg.com/uvtutorial.html

If you have the budget, I'd suggest Texture Layers from http://www.mankua.com. Spline-mapping would do this fairly quickly, and you could extract the splines from a selection of edges on the mesh.
