Brief: In a group, produce a 30 second trailer for a film/tv show/computer game.
Objective: To make a 30 second animation for a fictional re-make of John Wyndam's classic film/book/tv show/radio show, The Day of the Triffids.
Background Info: A triffid is plant with animal characteristics, their origins are unknown, be it alien, genetic mutation we simple don't know. Our film trailer is meant to portray a new twist on the story, aiming for a Shaun of the Dead/War of the Worlds combination, we only had to make the trailer, (James Roberts has since produced a 4 minute scene from the script outline, entitled 'The Siege of The Deco', available here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx3PGhkvCIQ&mode=related&search=))
The trailer was produced as a final year, 1st semester group project for our degree in BA Computer Animation at Portsmouth University, and was awarded 1st class honours.
The group consisted of;James Roberts - Director, concept artist, cameraman, character animation, compositor, sound and editor
Chavinpaul Chaichana - Low poly triffid model, rigging/skin and character animation.
and myself
David Wortley - Modeller, Zbrush, particle animation, Lighting, Shading, Rendering and assistant Comp.
Filmed in High Definition, the footage was comped together in After Effects, with all CG elements made in 3dsmax using Mental Ray SSS, Afterburn and Zbrush.
