I am trying to rig a billboard so that I can use bones to control the whole sign and post, and also to seperately control a single light on the structure.

Check out the image to see what I'm talking about.

I have set the polygons for all of the parts of the sign except the light to have a selection tag (called SIGNTOP) and set a restriction tag on the bones I want to influence those parts with the same name.

I have set th polygon for the light to have a selection tag called LightInfluence and set the restriction tag on the bones I want to influence that to be called the same.

The light's bones are children of the SIGNTOP's bones.

ok that's what I have set up. or at least how I precieve it to be (im new to C4D, longtime lightwave user).
AFAIK all polygons have an assigned selection set - although I'm not sure that is important.

My problem is that when I move the bones for the light, they have no effect on any of the geometry. When I move the bones for the sign, everything seems to move ok.

Am I even going about this the best way? Should I be using weightmaps instead of selection sets?

Thanks!
