Hi,

I am about to do a camera track of me walking around with a digital camera and will bring it into boujou.

My question is can I record it on a digital camera it's max resolution is 320x240 and the image quality kind of sucks.

I plan to bring the camera into 3d max and render the final images at 720x576. Do I need to get a camcorder that supports dvd resolution or can all this be done in max later?

Thanks.

I'm still a little confused about your camera - what's the model? It's Samsung, right? I've not come across a video-specific camera that records at that resolution before....

you can record whatever you want at that res but you might have a difficult time getting a camera track .... and you will further degrade the image quality if you scale it up like that

since it's 320x240 rez. kind of hard to analyze the footage. If you really want to do so, just make a slow movement without doing any harsh jurks b'coz of the rez is low,so boujou should be able to analyze it without a hazzle. Though ypu're taking the footage to max and render it in DVD rez, the footage will be stretched and da quality goes down. I prefer not to do it..!!

yeah man, get ahold of a real camera if you plan on putting any time and effort into your shot, not filming some bad jpeg movie with your digital still camera. any miniDV cam would be a big step up.

thanks for the replies, I just did a test walking around and the avi file is 320x240. So its not the best way to go recording with a digital camera? It is a Fujifilm Finepix A100 4.1mp

I will do a test with the camera if it doesnt work then will have to buy a camcorder.

A camcorder would be by far the best way to go for this kind of thing - the video functionality on stills cameras can be fun, but it's not something that I would want to do much in the way of VFX on...

Ok I have been looking at some cameras and this seems to be the average camera specs

4mp camera

Super: 2048*1536 pixels (hardware resolution)
High: 1600*1200 pixels
Middle: 1280*1024 pixels
Low: 800*600 pixels
Video clip: 320*240 pixels

I did a tutorial with boujou which had a jpeg sequence of 720x576, I am wondering when I shoot my footage on a basic video camera like the specs above, will it record in this Video clip 320*240 resolution? Do I resize the file in a programme like aftereffects, will stretching be a problem.

Thanks for the help.

You're still looking at stills cameras.... You want to be looking at video cameras....

Something like these (http://www.sony.co.uk/view/View.action?section=en_GB_Products&productcategory=%2FCamcorder&site=odw_en_GB&page=AllProductsInCategory) (from Sony)
Or these (http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Camcorders/High_Definition_HDV/index.asp) or these (http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Camcorders/Digital/index.asp) (fron Canon)
Or these (http://www.panasonic.co.uk/camcorders-home/index.htm) (from Panasonic - these if you've got some serious money (http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/cat_camcorders.asp))

All of these cameras will shoot SD, HDV or HD.

SD (Standard Definition) cameras will record at either 720x576 (PAL) or 720x486 (NTSC).
HD cameras are available that will record at 720p (1280x720) or 1080p (1920x1080).

no that was a camcorder, most of them record in 320x240 that I can see, the cheap ones around $300, That is not good enough for my needs?

Could you recommend a popular SD camera I might try and hire one.

btw, what are sd cards? Are they used for extrenal memory?

Thanks again

Do you have a link to that camcorder you were looking at?

SD Cards are the memory cards that a lot of stills cameras use to store their data on.

SD in this sense stands for "Secure Digital"

When talking about video (SD/HD), SD means "Standard Definition" (and HD means "High Definition")

It's an SD video camera that records PAL, so 720x576

hi guys-
i am using sony z1 HDV camcorder to do some camera tracking tests with boujou.

My question is Do i need to have some information about my camera's focal length - film plane data to give Boujou to do its job perfect ?

Thanks..

A camcorder for $300 that only record at 320x240. Thats such a rip off. Anyway am prity sure no one sells camcorder that only resolution go up to 320x240

The specs on the camera u gave before that do infact seem to be a of a camera and not a video camcorder

Super: 2048*1536 pixels (hardware resolution)
High: 1600*1200 pixels
Middle: 1280*1024 pixels
Low: 800*600 pixels
Video clip: 320*240 pixels

They all seem to be the different picture resolution you set on a piture camera. is they were specs for a real camcorder then it wouldn't have a listing for video clip. the Video clip resolution surguest its a picture camera and not a camcorder.
