Hi. It's been awhile since I've posted any wips so, I thought I'd give Gollum, a try. Haven't gotten the hang of Maya PLE just yet, so it's a Rhino model. :) What's more is that due to a recent move and upgrade, I don't have the newest version of Rhino, I'm stuck using Rhino 1.1. So, this is where I am after starting 4 hours and 38 minutes ago. I spent most of my time tweaking the neck, can ya tell? C+C's are welcome.

Thanks so much! It means a lot coming from you! Did a render with the eyelids and eyes now. Times like these I wish Rhino had decent texturing abilities. Ah well, at least the NURBS rock. Thanks again.

Well done. Its too bad about the Rhino renders but even a crappy renderer can't hide the fact that you have a very nice model going on here. Keep up the good work!

Just a side note. There has been a recent influx of people modeling gollum. I know he looked amazing in TTTowers but isn't it a bit repetitive? Just a thought.

Thanks. Yes, I noticed that too, and it almost made me stop but then, I thought about it and realized I'm doing this for my pleasure first and as a test of my own skill. What other's have done, like Julian_J, is amazing but irrelevant when it comes to finding out if I and my Rhino can do it.

*devilish grin comes on Teyon's face*

I guess I could always model a car...not too many folks doing that. :) Sorry, I couldn't resist. First hting folks say when they hear Rhino, "isn't that the car program?". Making Gullom is just one more chance to show the program's versatility.

Thanks again and I hope to have an update soon!

Looks good, but not too much like gollum :hmm: Maybe when you texture it, and make it less shiney it'll look better? :surprised

Good work tho, keep it up!
Cheers!

Thanks, I doubt I can texture anything more than the eye using RHino 1.1. :( AS for the shine, I think I finally took care of it. I had to refamiliarize myself with Rhino's renderer first. I'll post a non shiny image soon. I'm just having the darndest time with his ears though.

I'm going to put him down for a time...probably until my Rhino3.0 arrives. For now, here's where I am.

The ears aren't attached to well because Rhino 1.1's blend function doesn't have the control of 2.0 nor does it allow for much more input besides "please make a blend here". However, with the ears, he looks more like the character. Not a perfect copy but as I said, I was going sort of inbetween the first two films anyway. Comments welcome.

Thanks. Here's a shaded view of him so you can see his details without the lights getting in the way. I also removed his eyeballs...

WOW! Thanks. I'm really happy you think so. I'm trying to learn Maya now with the PLE and all I can say is my hat's off ta ya. That program's a beast on my machine. :) Thanks again.

hi there, maybe you might like to try the free version of xsi as well Link (http://www.softimage.com/products/exp/v3/) . i've not tried it but from what i have heard its alot more user freindly then the free verson of maya.

Yes, it is. I've already jumped on it but thanks. Of all the available learning editions, I've found Lightwave's to be the one I took to fastest with XSI a distant second and Maya bringing up the rear. I made a batwing in Maya thanks to 3dbuzz but I'm finding the learning curve for the interface to both XSI and Maya a little steep. I expected to be able to use nurbs the same way in Maya as I do in Rhino but it seems I have to get used to using primitives...something I avoid like the plague in RHino. Ah well, it's only been two weeks for both XSI and Maya...maybe after a month I'll feel different. LW is a dream...I just wish the Discovery Edition's point count wasn't so limited.

Thanks again. I hope to be seeing some new stuff from you soon.

I worked out a body for him. Still much to do and I'm reworking his eyes too.
