View Full Version : The Summoning - matte painting
andreasrocha 05-29-2007, 06:34 AM Hello guys.
My last matte painting. As a challenge I wanted to do it from scratch without use of any photos (only as reference). All the brushes were made from scratch. I also wanted it to a have a somewhat painterly look. I got to the stage were I think it is finished, but I know it isn't and need some strong helpful critiques to improve the painting. So, fire away those critiques, if you have the time. Thanks.

I love it. Everything seems to be perfect.
The only thing I don't like is how there is light comi from behid the mountains and how it is the same hue as the light coming from the tower. It may just be the sun, but I believe that this would look better in a darker atmosphere... like no light coming from behind the mountains.
It's like a LOTR piece. Like a view on the eye.
You should make the clouds darker as well to better portray evil (that's what I see this piece as, erm city of evil)
Also I think lightning bolts would better help this cocept as well but it's your piece and you don't have to take my advice.

hey Andreas this is amazing, I love composition, colors, mood, architecture , concept, everything fits quite well
the only thing to my eye is that the foreground rocks looks too sketchy, meybe it is worth to change those elements for some nice photos so you get a photo real texture
also I would add darker tones in the foreground so it attaches better to a real camera exposure
excellente excellent work ! five stars from me

Thats looking amazing Andreas,
I'd change the glow of the tower to have some yellow component to fit the tower itself more. But I guess it's intended the way you painted it.

Very nice work, something different and original there.
