Adding to that, you can make different kinds of shadows, like raytraced (superhard and crisp shadows) or the shadow map,you can choose one of the two in one of the rollout menus in the light properties (cant remember which rollout, they are at the bottom). The shadowmap can be manipulated in another rollout to get different results (softer edges, etc) Just play with it and render the results. Making shadows is almost an art. It can really add to the realism of your scene!
