Well, I finally decided it was time to make my first animation, so I booted up Maya and played around a bit. I am making a small 5-7 second clip that will run before all my movies on YouTube that acts as identification. My "production company" is Broken Vacuum, so I decided to model and animate an exploding vacuum. Below is the link to my current progress. Critique is welcome, and any help concerning creating explosions would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy!

Don't take this the wrong way, but that intro could give people seizures:

Maybe you could try a slower color change.

imamog,

try watching it with quicktime. In quicktime it looks okay, but I just watched it in windows media player and almost had a heart attack! I'm assuming that's not what it is supposed to look like. As for my thoughts, if you're going to be using it as an intro to all of your movies, I'd probably put more detail into the model. Or if you want it simple, make it a bit more stylized. Right now it just looks kinda boring. Sorry!

Its knda boring... I would add some secondary animation to the vacuum, like make it kinda bump and bobble around a bit. This isnt relevant really to the animation, but if you could use particles or even a post production puff of smoke or dust when the bag explodes, it would really help to sell your idea.

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry about the quality of the video, didn't realize how bad it looked in WMP. I am planning on more detail and a better explosion. This is still very much a WIP, so my next post will be with another version.
