View Full Version : transfering settings
videogrfx 05-28-2007, 12:12 AM I'm working on separate Mac machines in two locals. Is there a way to transfer all palate, brush, paper etc settings from one machine to the other simply? I'm under the gun here and pretty new to painter. Thanks so much!

Hi Darrell,
To even begin to answer your question, we'll need to know the Painter version you're using (including Update number, if any... i.e. Painter 8, Painter 8.1, Painter IX, Painter IX.5, or Painter X).

Sorry. I'm using Painter version IX. I did manage to transfer the settings but what a convoluted series of steps. At least the way I figured out to do it. Can you or anyone recommend a good companion book for Painter? Corel's documention is rather weak.

Hi,
The more you use Painter, the more you'll find Help Topics useful. Though it's certainly not perfect, it does contain loads of good information. I'd recommend getting in the habit of looking things up as you'll learn a lot that way and if you still can't find the answer, there are always forums where you can ask specific questions.
There are several books available and it would depend on what you want to do, which would be best. You'll find a list and descriptions of books, CD's, and DVD's on the Corel Painter X website at:
http://apps.corel.com/painterx/us/resources_books_cds_dvds.html
Also visit my website, PixelAlley (http://www.pixelalley.com), for tutorials and other resources.
In the right column, you'll find links to all issues of the Painter IX and Painter X newsletters, The Painter Canvas, plus additional tutorials on both of those pages. The Painter Canvas newsletter is full of good tips and tutorials to enjoy.
Among other sections linked in the right column of the PixelAlley home page, the section named New Tips and Tutorials by Jinny is updated frequently so check back often to see what's new on that page.
Information in the left column is written for earlier Painter versions but a lot of it is still applicable to more current Painter versions, so take a look at those sections too.
That oughta keep you busy for a while! ;)

Thanks Jinny. I normally do look things up myself but then you know how that goes. One thing leads to another cool thing and before you know it, you've spent two hours and your illustration is still mostly canvas. I've bookmarked your site. I managed to discovere some great watercolor brushes last night that I'm pretty happy with (regarding another post of mine). Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out.
