Hey this animation is very original. never seen anything like ths b4. good work man. i will be interested in seing more of your work if that's ok? Did you use morphs?

when your red paper falls down i would allow for more slow-ins and slow-outs when it changes directions and when coming to a stop.

after the red paper gets folded into the little animal i wouldn't cross fade to a closer shot of him i would just cut or use no camera transitions at all keeping the original shot.

other than that is was very enjoyable and touching.

very artistic, very nice. The music really works well with this piece.
Great work. :thumbsup:

very nice work. The only thing that was a little bit annoying to me is that the paper was infinitly flat. I am sure if you extrued it a little bit to add depth it would have become a lot harder to "fold".

Very original

thx for all the positiv feedback.

@zoso
yes, some of the cuts and fades could be better, but it's still quite an improvement over my earlier versions.

@stephen2002
yes, i tried doing it as a box, but it turned out to be nearly impossible to fold. I also tried to only extrude it after the folding(for the animation), but that didn't work either

how i did it?
it's basicly an animated construction history using rotation(translation) of clustered vertices with poly(edge) cutting tool. Took a bit of practice, but worked quite well in the end. I did try softbodies(springs as well) and cloth, to make the folding look more natural. but the results were far from usable.

Nice piece, I liked it so much. Only one technical crit: when the burned paper falls down into ashes, particles are too big and defined (you can see the triangles).

Congratulations
:thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

wow! I love it! yeah lol, the ONLY thing you could say anything about would be the particles, but personally I didn't even notice it. It's awesoe, great camera positions too. when do we get to see more?

:eek: OUTSTANDING ! ! !
That was soo great. The story was so cute, and the animation was top notch. This should be on the CGtalk front page.

funny thing u can see triangles, coz the particles are a SW-particle clowd, there is no geometry...

but i know what u mean. ;) the problem is the physical simulation. the forces change to fast between the frames which causes a ripping-appart effect. increasing the oversampling might have helped, but the particle HD-cache already was 13GB+. And oversampling only works for caching, not on direct rendering. (At least i didn't get it to work)

The concept was very good and the overall presentation and story were excellent.

I liked the particle fire, but found the particles to not be quite turbulent enough when the character was blowing away at the end. Overall I loved it.

BRAVO! I love origami, have always been waiting for someone to tackle it in 3D. Great job, we need to see more stuff like this! How about a sequel with Robert J. Lang's instrumentalists? Takes me hours just to fold it, wonder how long it'd take to animate.

Thumbs upppppp!

Hey,

That was awesome, esp cause i was doing oragami last night with my japaneese teacher.

what was atsuatsu supposed to mean? my dictionary says 'pipping hot'

anyway it was awesome, you may want to look for a plugin like the foil plugin for max, it adds a little thickness to planes, i think without the actually geometry. or perhapse a displacment mapcould give a little thickness.

good luck with the work
