Just a fun little tracking test/experiment, everything apart from the track was just an hour or twos work (track took longer due to Icarus being a pig, in the end I tracked it with voodoo which worked perfectly on the first attempt), as if it's not totally obvious i'm just a coder, not an animator/modeler/rigger etc (but hopefully it still turned out ok), was fun to do.

Edit - Have to say what hw/sw used - Sony HDRSR1 cam, Elecard converter, Super, Voodoo, Cinema 4D/Bodypaint, AE

It was fun to watch. Reminded me of the incredibles. Now I am curious as to what its going to do NEXT :)

Tracking looks pretty good to me why was Icarus being a pig? never used voodoo for camera movment, what's your preferred tool?

Why it hides of course! All robots hide, otherwise we'd know about them. It stands to reason.

Icarus couldn't resolve a decent camera matrix from it's tracking data, what it outputted was totally unrelated to what it tracked, even when manually tracked. I don't have a preferred tracking tool as I simply don't have enough experience of any of them, the only two I have that can output to anything are Icarus 2.09 and Voodoo, though I've tried the Syntheyes demo, seems pretty good but without being able to test an export I've no way of knowing for sure how well it actually works in practice, I hear that PFTrack (what Icarus later became) is meant to have grown up a great deal.

nice tracking. Considering you had a jerky camera clip you managed to track very well.
Can't wait to see more of your work and if you have any tips, please share it with me. I have had a go myself and i find it very tricky, maybe im using the wrong software.

keep up the good work

Thanks, to be honest it was very easy in voodoo, just an autotrack and it was done, the only tips i can give are the obvious, avoid zooms (unless your software supports it), try to video/film things that have clear marks/markers on them, i.e. things to track, film for a decent legnth of time, the tracking seems to require there to be some movement for it to work out the depth of the markers, some software really is better than others at certain situations, it's worth trying some others out.
