Tried the demo of 3D Exploration/Deep Exploration, but you still need to have a copy of Max installed to convert .max files to something else.

Isn't there any converter that allows you to convert .max without having it installed??

Maybe Polytrans 2.2? This is your only other option for good translators. Where did you get the .Max file? Ask them to export .3ds.
