View Full Version : Factory Extnesion
Timmay 05-26-2007, 02:02 AM Here is a plate extension I just completed. The lower right hand corner is the orignial plate. The building on the left is a 3d model from Max. I'll upload the camera move (camera mapping) and the orig plate in a few days. Tell me what you think!

Hi tim , well I see some issues in this image that you can improve
first of all
composition; what's your focal node here?? what do you exactly want from the viewer to explore in this image?
scale: your 3D model has nice integration with lighting and mood, but the scale is so wrong for the depth you put it, smaller windows or try to push it to the foreground
that black on the clouds is not helping either , I think you need some more aereal perspective and take out that black levels from the clouds
linear perspective need some adjustments on the foreground cylinders and domes
this is just my opinion

Thanx for the reply Jamie. I've adjusted the levels on the clouds, rearranged some things and scaled down the windows on the model.

Here are my views:
-I liked the overall color hues better on the first scene (excluding the clouds, on which I agree with jamesvfx). Now everything looks somewhat flat and monochromatic. Like jamesvfx was saying, you still need to work more on directing the viewer's attention. Right now nothing really stands out. Does the CG building have to be gray?
- Are you using a bit of Ambient Occlusion on the model? It would really help bring out details especially on the main building on the left.
- Is the perspective well matched? It seem to me like you need to raise the CG camera a bit.
- You need to work a little on you glass shader for the windows. It still looks a little flat.
- The air still looks too clean. Especially for the factory environment. Try adding a slight layer of low smog. Especially in the BG clouds behind the buildings in the distance.
- How about a little Glare shader to bring out the highlights....
Cheers
Looks like theres no reflection on the CG building windows, only specular... only thing I really have to add to other people's critique's so far.

No it's actually a yellowish color. I had a desat adjust layer on it which I took off. It really brings more attention to it now thanks! And keeping my adjusted hues away from the sky works alot better as well.

Well I wanted the building to seem tall. I'm not sure if this is what I'm portraying correctly.

I didn't use a shader in 3d, I hand painted them. I've added some more reflections now though.

I didn't even think of this. The footage I shot the air was relatively clear this did not cross my mind.
Cole-Thanx for pointing the reflections bit out as well. I've added some into the bigger windows.
These forums are great! Thanx everyone for your critiques!
