Title: Deep into the blue
Name: Emre Tanriverdi
Country: USA
Software: Photoshop

Hello everyone, in this piece I've tried to give the feeling of a some kind of creature diving into the ocean. The creature is called Zouma, a giant polar bear-sea lion kind of creature. There is a girl riding with yellow Bruce Lee kind of colored suit (in movie The Game of death :) ) is holding tight to the creature's fur and skin at the moment of jump n dive. Actually Zouma is chasing the fishes. This is my first attempt to draw a woman and of course no reference used and no animals harmed during this work. :)
I've checked few whale photos for the splash effect but actually I did everything from imagination.

Image size: 11000 pixels*5000
Duration: One week

Below you can see links to the detail shots. Please check them full size. Thanks.

This is awesome!, I like the action, it's like a frame from a movie, Perfect for production.
Details on waves is amazing and the file size is great, it could be a huge billboard. Keep going Emre,

This is done very well, great water effects, lots of study. My only crit is the drastic movement strokes in the front, it seems a bit fast for water and makes my eyes go left to right instead of focusing on the action.

Great feeling.

My crit: a rule of thumb: Anything underwater should be low contrast and low saturation. ;)

Thanks for crits

ArmyOfMayhem : yes I wanted to have big n deep strokes cause its a 2o tons of creature diving into water with speed. Thats the main action actually.

Spaxe: The colors vanishes in water after 3o feets of vertical depth and horizontal distance starting with red, then yellow blends and blue would be the dominant color after 80 feet.
so in here the creature is almost right below the sea surface on a sunny day.

Here r some referances

cheers.

the water is unbelievable. Little bit too saturated for my taste but i guess you made it for some reason. great piece all around

I like the action of this piece, but I agree the saturation is WAY too high. Need to adjust the colors a bit, so they're not so intense. I think it would be good to even see some variation in the color, so the whole image isn't just blue.

thanks joel,
I actually have a reply earlier about the colors and contrast thing. I did the fishes brownish at the begining but it takes too much attention so thats why i just kept the far bckgrnd and foreground elements like the way they r now. Other than that pls check the referance photos for the colors like a whale and the colors of the water on others. Basicaly thats what i did. the bear is white-grey colored so it looks pretty much like a white whale.

Actually I like the saturated colores. I have seen many images with that deep, bright blue.

Cheers
