Title: Stone and Skin
Name: François GASTALDO
Country: France
Software: 3ds max, mental ray

ere is a little bit of softness and warmness in this hard 3D world.

Skin is made with Mental Ray Fast SSS Skin.

For drops of water, it's a special material on a clone of body object. It just add drops and 'wet' material beneath.

Indeed, it's very hard to have good wet skin. Each person I asked had different experience and ideas of it. So it's difficult to find a 'good' and acceptable drop look.

tell me what you think about the skin and the drops, it will be greatly appreciate... Thanks !

Nice job on the water drops. It's very tough to do well isn't it? I am still playing around trying to get happy with a nice sweat/waterdrop material. Your's look very good.

Thanks to all for your great comments !

For the drops, here is the material :

http://chan.alach.free.fr/nodejoe/DropMaterialNodeJoe.jpg

just read Shadows instead of swadows :argh:

It was made with Nodejoe, but you can do it without. Just read from right to left and put according shaders (maps in Max language ...) in slots.

As I didn't use any inderect illumination, there is no shaders for photon, so it doesn't work with GI or FG
But it would be easy to add a photon shader.

My lighting for this picture is a standard 3 points lighting. I really like 'contre-jour' :p
And hairs were useful to have such kind of lighting working well.

Thanks again !

Nicely done - thanks for sharing the methodology! I am not familiar with Nodejoe but I think I can get my head around it.

My best effort so far was not as complex; I used a glass material with a painted alpha to mask in the drops and a high contrast copy of the same as either a bump or displacement map. I think yours is a much more elegant solution - mine was much more dependant on hand-positioning/UV's.

I ended up finding it was okay for really micro-sweat but used Particle flows to do most of the small to large drops. You can see my end product here:

I will definitely give your approach a try - thanks again.

There should be a little gravity on those cheeks. From here, it appears that she's puckered up pretty hard.

Hello !

Everybody tell me that she is a little bit ... up !

In fact, the model is not so 'round'. I just use a traditionnal photographic technic to better show woman shape.

I use a 70mm lens with a line of view parallel to shoulder. Have a look at Aubade calendar, for exemple, they use the same way to better see ... round parts. :p

The 70mm has just a little less perspective than 50mm (and lot less than 43mm of Max...), so things appear closer (and bigger). It is a small effect, whith great change !

I'm preparing a wire to show how and where to put the camera. You'll also see that the body is more 'usual' than you think.

Just wait tomorow :wip:

Thanks a lot to all for your great comments !

soft indeed, nice mood. I think the light could be warmer, for a more 'lazy day at the beach'. but anyway, I like it. maybe there's a little cloud blocking the sun just a little bit, makes things more dynamic...
