View Full Version : Getting up close and personal without camera intersections
lildragon 03-16-2003, 09:00 AM Heya guys, have a minor issue here, I'm the type of guy that likes to get right in there to move edges and such, but in C4D it seems the camera always intersects the geometry and pushes me inside the model. Basically I would like to be able to zoom in on an edge so it fills the screen. I remember in Max there was an option to turn something like this off. Cause it's becoming a bit annoying that I have to tweak my mesh from a distance :hmm: any help would be cool
thx

maybe this will help: create a new camera that is aligned to a null-object inside your model. you can then move the camera around your model and move the null-object around to let the camera point at the area of your desire.

hi, just make your selection and press "s" or go to the viewport menu and select Edit->Frame selection elements (you'll notice there are a few frame selected scene etc in there too)
Also i recommend you download Camera Gaffer form my website
http://www.peranders.com/c4d8/
just put in your plugins folder (this should work with teh demo also), then make a new camera, go to the viewport menu and select Camera->Scene Camera->(the name of your camera). Then in the object manager with the camera selected go to the Object manager menu File->New Expression->Camera Gaffer Expression, and a tag will be applied to your camera. If you double click it it will bring up it's own window with the Camera Gaffer options (there's a PDF included that explains what all the options do). Play around, you should find that it totally helps if you're an "up close" modeller.

argh sorry just saw you wanted the clipping distance to be shrunk
i can't remmeber where the setting for that is (if there is one), but you could try holding down alt while you use the zoom, as normally zoom actually dolly's in cinema r8. hopefully this will help you more with what you want.

Thx guys but I just figured out my prob :hmm: as newbie status sets in, I was using the "move" 1 to zoom also with the right mouse button, but using 3 the actual zoom it did as expected. Hehe can't wait to past this newbie stage :p
