hello, has been a long time since my last post (i've started vjing, and i'm allways creating new material, specially now more on AE than C4D)

just dropped in to ask 2 quick questions:

http://werlintm.no.sapo.pt/light%20prob.jpg

in that picture in the upper darker part there's a line of light that i'm not sure what's doing there... i've got omnis & a couple of infinites, but i have no clue to how that light trace is there... anyone has a suggestion how to remove it?

as you see in the picture there are display screens... can anyone tell me whats the fastest codec for them to be used & rendered quickly in C4D?

thanks for your time and attention

If you're on a PC, you might find useful the XviD or DivX inside an AVI container for the purpose - even though the screens are pretty small and you can practically use any codec for their content without affecting the rendering speed or available ram. Not sure about the XviD or DivX support on the MACs but I guess there should be no problem as well.

As for the white curve, it is hard to tell what it could be unless I take look at the c4d file. If you link the file, I'll gladly download it and try to find out what's causing it.

Lovas, sorry i did'nt respond right away, i was out of town for some gigs.

the prob with the light trail were the infinite lights, were the 1st ones i created in the scene and after all those lights they weren't needed in the scene anymore as i just found out

i did what you've suggested in terms of divx codecs... the problem is the 1st frame renders quickly but as frames goes by the renders become longer... and i'm not talking about the movie rendering.. example: if i put it in the 1st frame it takes 40 seconds, but if i move the time cursor to 35frame it takes 1min49secs to render the still how can i get past this?

anyway thanks 4 your time and attention

From what you wrote, I can try and guess: the gradually increasing rendering times, depending on the position on timeline usually happen when you use an effect in your scene, that simulate certain natural phenomena and is thus calculated on the iteration basis. In other words, the state of the effect for the current frame is calculated based on its state for the previous frame and its state is calculated based on the frame preceding it etc. Some of such effects might include particles (especially when using with the Pyrocluster to create smoke etc.), hair, clothilde, dynamics in general... Even if you need to render a single frame and not the whole animation, the effect has to be calculated for all the frames preceding it.

I also remember of a bug in the GI rendering engine that kept increasing rendering times for each frame, as you described, making the GI almost useless for animation rendering. I don't know if it was corrected in one of the latest versions as I've been using finalRender 2 for almost all GI work in C4D for some time now, instead of the default GI engine, built-in in the AR.

So I'd suggest to check you scene for such iterating effects (baking them might help) and/or to try to turn off the GI calculation if not needed (you can often replace it by using properly set and coloured area-lights, hidden behind strongly lit surfaces).

Another reason for the gradually increasing rendering times towards the end of the timeline might be simply your camera rotating in such a way that it covers more and more elements of the scene. Especially if your scene contains volumetric lights or lots of transparent and/or reflective surfaces.

Increasing render times 'bug' was covered in this topic. (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=47&t=460549&page=1&pp=15)

Cheers, Alan.

i've read the other thread then i checked at maxon's... downloaded r10.1 and its even faster than i expected, all frames with an average of 50secs with reflections and alphas in vidtexs with 2000x200px it amazing, and the time for the build-gather of information is practically none...

THANKS MATES
