hey everyone. I've been reading the cgtalk forums for quite a while but have only now decided I've got enough balls to post, heh. I'm going to school to become a 3D modeler/animator in the gaming industry, and I'm currently in my first year (of two). Right now our main assignment is a 30-second short. I'm using 3D studio max 5.1 for everything 3D, and photoshop 6.0 for everything 2D. I've finished modeling/texturing/rigging (for the most part at least, I'm always making tiny little changes as I go), and have begun to animate. The premise is the character is some random idiot working as the guy who seals up boxes before they are shipped (I'm not making it clear where exactly he works). He's extremely stupid, and ends up getting his ass kicked by a tape dispenser. Anyway, here's a few renders of what I have animated so far. The one thing that I know is wrong is the lower conveyer belt passes through the rollers a few times, that's just because I haven't animated it yet, so don't worry about that part. Also, there's a little metal staple right next to the stapler, that's the reference staple model I used for the stapler which uses particle systems to shoot out staples that respond to gravity etc. I just forgot to hide it when I rendered :-p

Aaaaanyway, without further adeu, my project:

Oh, and I added the forground elements as a test because most of the scene was in the middle and background. I'm definately open to suggestions of ways to change/improve the sense of depth.

I can't wait to hear your crits and comments :-D

thanks for readin'

Looking very nice so far. Much nicer than the student stuf you see these days. The character looks cool with that outline shader. Just a couple of small things: you could put a dirty texture on the conveyer belt or some small yellow stripy lines just so you can see it's moving. To get a better sense of depth you can add poles at equal distance from the camera to the background like small columns, this usually helps people perceive depth. Keep the updates coming.

thanks, I'll try that on monday when I get back to school and see how it looks.
