I plan on drawing some alien structures as soon as I can borrow my roommate's wacom tablet..

A quick sketch (without a wacom) of an idea I had at 3am. Flock of birds in the background, alien ship flying into a subterranian tube. Little pods on the side of the river, with some sort of biodome structure on the other side. The blue things are supposed to be cold fusion tanks or large capacitors or something. I also plan on adding CG water, since this will be animated.

Another idea came to me.. some metal or glass domes in the side of the rock.

comments / critiques?

I am beginning to think that I should use that 3d model + camera projection method for this, after seeing the results from a couple other projects..

I've never had to do it before, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be on this image.

Also, is this technique used much in feature films? I had the impression that they used mostly 2d tracking & matte paintings.

Any suggestions?
