Is there a tool in max that subdivides polys in edible mesh like in lightwave when you select a poly you can hit shift + d and it divides the polys evenly. The divide tool doesnt do what i want and I havent been able to find anything that works like it. Thanks in advance.

What version of max do you have?

well use poly mode and Tesselate might do the trick..

Use tesselate, it should do the trick !
Download the polytools if you don't already have them, they will make max a lot more user-friendly to model with polys

tesselate isnt really what im looking for, it divides it unevely and not even on the same plane. And by poly tools were you refering to meshtools? If so which tool would be what im looking for? In lightwave I can just hit D and it divides it evenly and on one plane and is really nice. Thanks
Oh and im working with 3.1

well.....I know in max 4.2, there's a subD option in the control panel under the editable poly mode that I think would do what your talking about.

http://www.savagepixels.com/visualboo/images/poly_subD.jpg

These all started as the box on the left with the same poly selected then I used the subD option to meshsmooth just that portion of the mesh.

I know you dont have 4.2 but if you can afford it, it's WELL worth the money.

If you use meshtools you could do this: in editable poly, use the edge ring select, then use connect selected edges, then repeat the process in the other direction. If you want to just divide a single poly you could try editable patch mode and subvivide. Don't know if that's what you mean, but hope it helped.

Just a wild stab... (because I read what others had put and thought they'd all hit it on the head for you) - but when you say "tesselate isnt really what im looking for, it divides it unevely and not even on the same plane." - I'm assuming that you're using the Tesselate modifier on a stack with a face selection below... if so have you checked from operate on "tris" to "Polys"?

And I really think you should upgrade - it'll save you a lot of hassle in the long run! (Admittedly it'll give you new ones as well:( )

@rendermonkey23

how do you highlight the selected polygons with red?
I have seen this in the timelapse modelling videos,
but I haven't found an option in max, to turn this
on... thanx in advance.

In Max 4, under viewport configuration, there is a "shade selected faces" box on the right hand column. Check it, and your whole selected face will turn a color (default is yellow I think) instead of a color just outlining the face(s).

Color is set in Customize User Interface/Colors/(elements)Geometry/Subselection.

Don't know if this is true for 3.1 or not.

Just hit f4.

If you want to show edges also hit f2. f3 for wireframe. You can always go to customize keyboard if you dont know a shortcut and see'em all.

thanks rendermonkey23 and Mahlon.
Always got the option with F4 activated
(don't know the english name),
but Mahlon's tip does the trick :)

This will make many things easier
