Hi! I'm trying to unwrap my human character but suck in doing uv-unwrap. How should I go about doing it and how I know if I have unwrap them properly? I sometime see some people map their character with checker box before unwrapping. Whats that for and how is it used?

the checker patterns are used to check for stretching & sizing...you want all the squares to be square & all more or less the same size,if your checker looks more like ractangles on your model then you'll have stretching when you come to texture it.
it's also helpful to have a checker pattern with numbers on it
