Hello All!
This is a model that I've been working on, done with box modeling in Max 5, the model is just over 4000 polys. I am still working on figuring the whole texture thing out so as you can tell a WIP.
C&C welcome, please and thank yous.

the face itself looks good but those whiskers just seem a bit freaky right now as if there was another arm growing out of the cats cheek...

Nice model, I really like the head! I'm not sure if your planning on adding more detail to the hands, but it would look even better with more detail on them. What if you bulged the belly out a bit, to kinda give the stomach area a cool cartoony feel. good stuff though!:)

hey man, like the face, especially the eyes.

not sure about the mouth:hmm:

and definitely shrink the whiskers, think they look really loooong IMHO. i'd probably try shortening them by 5 rows of polys.

you gonna post a colour pic up?!?!:bounce: :bounce:

I think ya need to round out the waist area, also, the chest I like what you've got going, add alittle more variety to that, and you'll be done.
I agree with the others here, you need more detail in the paws, it would completely change the character, and make it more believable.

the legs seem out of perportion to the rest of him. they need to be longer i think. he reminds me of sylversters nephew or son. cant remember what he was.

Hello All!

I've updated the cat slightly, taking some of you advice, thanks alot, it always helps to hear from others, staring at the same thing hour after hour you tend to miss things.

I've tweaked the paws a little but I think I'm going in for some more. The legs are a little longer, but I sont think I want them much longer, I took down the whiskers alittle and I think I like it better shorter thanks for the advice. The stomache I made a little rounder and fatter.

Next I will make some textures and posts some color pics:wavey:
Here we go!
Thanks

not bad, dont make his chest stick out though it seems like he has a barrel chest thing going on.
Cats dont have that.
also, looking at the front view image it looks like the knees turn in. not bad, the hands are nicely done, i suggest making the arms a tad smaller.
Can't wait to see this textured and coloured.

I see what you're saying about the barrel chest, but I think that's caused by the neck and not the shape of the chest so much.

The neck is an extension of the spine, where in this case it looks like an extension of the esophagus. Maybe if the head were brought forward, the line between the base of the skull and the spine would be brought into a more believable alignment.

The hips are still a little squarish. In the 3/4 downward view, you can still make out the box that they were generated from. He might be a cartoon, but he has to have anatomy that comes from a somewhat natural-looking musculoskeletal underpinning. The boxiness detracts from this.

Could you add a cleft in his upper lip, under his nose? He doesn't seem very cat-like in his face around that area.

Lastly, I think his legs are way too short. He's never going to be able to do more than shuffle when you rig him. I'd like to see toes on his feet, too, if you could add them without making the feet longer.

I really like how he's coming along, though. I hope these ideas help.

Made a few more changes.

webfox:
Made the legs a little longer, thanks for pointing that out to me about the rigging, that will probablly make a huge difference.

and Ive added toes to the feet. Ive uploaded an image off the original model before placing an extre iteration for smoothing.

Thanks for all the advice! Next will hopefully be the textures,

Looks good!

I am attaching a pic to show you what I was saying about the neck. I reworked it in photoshop to explain it a little more.

Just something for consideration.

webfox :

Thanks for the pics, I think I understand what you saying, Ill try making the neck a little larger in the back to encompass more of the back of the skull, maybe that will give the look of the head being connected to the spine. Thanks alot!

You might just shift the whole head forward and push/pull some points to get the neck to smooth out.

I'm glad you are liking the suggestions, though.

Take care and keep us posted.

Hello... Yeah... Me here... Good work... But what the hell are those pointy demonhorn kinda thingys on his chest? And also, people, those aren't the whiskers, those two lines are for animation... They control where the eyes look...

Hello All!

Thanks for all the replyies and critiques, I appreciate all the help that you have given me

Here is my humble attempt at the unwrap feature in max5, the textures still need alot of clean up, but its a start.

Still working on this model, playing with the textures, and rigging the character. Im just going to be throwing a biped into the character rather then bones to play around with character studio.

Thanks
