I have been trying for months to create a realistic "cylindrical light" with global ilumination (like the neaon light in this picture).
I have tryed it with incandescence and final gather, but I was not satisfaed with the result, because of the flickern by rendering with final gather. The option with many pointlights across the neon brought me to the same result.
There is a usefull tool for Maya that works for Windows and Linux "CTRL_ObjectLights":

But I use Maya 8.0 on a MacOS 10.4 machine. I`m sure there is a simple way to handle this problem.
If you have an idea how this warks please give me some help.
