Looks like Cindy Crawford. Was this your reference?

This is not Cindy Crawford:)
And this is not photo reference.
I work as photomodel and my collegues are very beautiful girls.
They are pose to me...
Yes,maybe my friend are looks like a Cindy Crawford...But I draw she from a nature after the photosession :)
Thank`s for comments!

Hmmm looks really cool the only thing I'm not sure about are the shadows espacially if u look at her hair and the at her face it looks strange to me

I know artists come here to hopefully get some ctitique,so I would say the legs don`t quite seem right. One seems thicker than the other and the stockings don`t seem to be at the same level on the legs.Where does her right arm go?
Bredro
Maria

Thank`s to all for your fair criticism.:)
I think, you are right.
Her right arm is behind the back. :)
Month of work on a picture has little tired me...
In the future I`ll try to take into account all lacks.
I Hope, it will turn out. I am very grateful to you for all your remarks. I think, after some time I`ll necessary work at this picture and I`ll correct all lacks.
Bredro

I was thinking the way the sleeve hangs that her right arm[left on the picture]is bent upwards in front of her and her hand is clutching her dress by her chest. That`s the way I see it anyways
Still it`s a beautiful image.....

ok guys forgive me in advance for being sooo negative but this work seems like a major rework(i hope thats the right word)
of a photo with some photoshop-ing thrown in to make it look like it was made completely in photoshop
ohh well unlike 3d whr we can post wireframes and textures 2 show that it was made from scratch
lol
or it could be just my green mosnter speaking
grreat work maria and keep it up u should take up texturing for 3d works
the face is absolute kickass

I agree, with the face being the way it is compared to the legs, it looks as though the face was from a photo, and the legs were straight photoshop

Come on guys, while I understand ur arguments, you have to give Maria the benefit of the doubt. Okay the accuracy of the head is greater than that of the legs but possibly that is where more of her talent lies - in facial artistry. If u look at her site she has many similar works, so this hasnt just come out of the blue. Perhaps its just a testament to her work that some of u think it is a re-hashed photo....
Maria could u post the original drawing u did of this woman pls? It might help decide this one way or another. Personally, I think this is great work

I don't think it would take anyone 1 1/2 months to "trace" an image

I am sorry, I dont want to be rude.
But if you can draw face without reference so fine, then what happened to those legs, they look like ... well .. as I sayd, dont want to be rude. And the backround is sort of tasteless and flat.
I just thought that if person can draw face like that, she/he can certainly give a picture good depth, composition and color.
My point is, I kind of dont believe that that face is drawn like you say it is.

Heh you guys are quite a pack, I guess that's a huge compliment on her part in a way though. I mean the work is so well done that you guys think it's not feasibly possible a young artist could do this? There was another incident just like this last year, when a young highschool student I believe presented some incredibly realistic self portraits of himself studying and what not. He was basically called out on every aspect, it's just wrong to come off like that because someone has immense talent. It'll be interesting to her what Maria has to say.
Sometimes peeps here jump to conclusions way to fast without any proof at all.
alexgc
03-16-2003, 10:18 AM
Exactly lildragon i totally agree...Its like they are having a go at someone for being too good.
So what if the face is better than the rest of the picture. How many times have one of u guys done some work where one part is significantly more detailed than another? It just a case of Maria needing to pay more attention to the areas that need it.
You shouldnt be so quick to knock ppl

If you go to her site you`ll see that this is the type of style that she does.Obviously she has majour degree in art,and mabey she was taught to concentrate on the face as it`s the most expressive part of the body. The only thing that bothers me about her stuff is the faces all seem to be supermodels or something.
The fact that some think they are not real...is a compliment to her talent.

Hey lil!
First of all, i read all the thread before answer, so you don't need to quote!
it's just my opinion...I hope i can give it?...
For me, this kind of work is nothing great! Just photomontage (The church behind, the head of the girl , the little textured wall)
And why need proof to say if it is a personnal artistic stuff or not! The result must tell by himself!
What is sad here, is that Maria can do great real 2D stuff!
Some pics she did are amazing!
But this time, it is not... Again, it is my opinion!
I'm sorry! :hmm:
Maybe i can change my mind with the rough!;)

Why is it everytime I state my thoughts on a matter peeps push this in my face? Did I say you can't give an opinion? No... all I'm saying that you amongst the others are assuming something without any proof, you're basically saying to Maria "you can't be this good" and if it's nothing great to you, why bother to reply to the thread? I mean really, if you're going to reply to a thread just to say "you can do better" or "I don't think this is great work" is just uncalled for IMO, since you didn't drop a lick of constructive criticism.

But not for this one! ...Very simple! So i say it! and without any spite!
I just don't want to say everytime! "Waw! Great! Amazing" when i don't think it is! I rarely say bad things to someone's work! but this time, it was too much! As for all those kind of works!
(Maybe CGTalk needs a new part: 2D Photomontage and Photo-Retouching.)

Totitch: Why don't you just let her do her thing. It's looking great and there is no need for you to run it down.
Who defines art? You? Shurely not.
I did a similar artwork some time ago (look @ my avatar) and earned similar comments like Maria. I took much efford in proving that it's just not a simple "trace", how you call it, and even published a realtime video showing how she has developed. All this finally destroyed my efford in doing this piece. And I think this should not be the meaning of this board. Try to be a bit more tolerant, you expect people to be tolerant to you, too...

I think Totich has a right to voice his opinion. All the oohhh's and aaaah's are perfectly fine with you guys , but once one person has an opinion that isn't excepted by you guys, you jump all over him. I get what your saying Totich:) Nice pic by the way, I'm not gonna dare say any more than that!!

I think we are going around in circles here. The point is, outside of any valid criticism you may have for this piece, you are blatantly accusing this artist of lying and using retouched photographs without any proof. Why?

Lord give me strength, Tubby/Totitch listen, that's not the point I was trying to make, why don't you all read? I really don't care if someone gives ooohs and aahhs doesn't matter to me, what I was saying you just don't say remarks that can bring the artists moral down. Put yourself in her shoes... It's called constructive criticism not accusation Maria was so enthusiatic about posting here and getting her art up on the frontpage that it acted as a positive drive for her. Now she more than likely will have to prove her talent to you few with your torches and pitchforks!

I would love to see some WIP images of this piece, after so long time working on it I'm sure you have a few backups. and it wont take long to show some of them to prove you've done this without tracing/photomanipulation which you are all discussion/wondering about.. and I'm sure it will help some noob ppl to.
and I don't think this is jealousy from totitch side, he has nothing to be jealous of in this matter.
well, hope you prove us right. the face looks beautiful, lets hope it's made from scratch. if it is, I will be impressed!

Thank you all for your attention!:)
At first, I want to tell, that it`s not a photomontage.
I used only the sketches of the woman,I draw from nature.
How it can be a photomontage if you said me that legs are made not so well? Concerning the person - I think you are right.
I studied in Art Studio and drawing faces from nature was allocated the most part of the time of my study! I like to draw female faces, I do it best of all, therefore I was possible admit a mistake in background and a body.
During 10 years of study,I have well seized engineering of drawing of faces, portraits! And it`s pleasant to me most of all, portrait - my favourite genre. I am glad, that you like Sadness and Helena....... These are portraits which I paint for myself, instead of commercial works. I study to draw more carefully a body, clothes, and background.
By the way, concerning separate details of work - church, face, shoes...
The real size of work is 28 on 55 sm, therefore I can show only separate details in the real size.
Thank you very much for your support and attention!

Hi,
Very cool work.
But I hate to watch talking about photo retouch without any proof. It’s seek.
terryford

If the face isn't a photo retouch then it's very well done.
Maria; maybe if you posted some of the preparatory sketches or various stages of completion some people would be less skeptcal.
Also, it's informative to see how other artists arrive at their final piece. I often learn more from looking at sketches (or wireframes in the case of 3D) than the final image.

Terry

Maria, i think there is no doubt that you painted this pic, and you can do it without any reference, but there is no doubt either that you spended most of the time working on the details of the face, and very little on the rest features of the body, like the legs and shoes for example that look very flat to me.
If this is a finished piece of work, i would say it is good overal, but still the quality varies a lot from face to toes and thats confusing.
Art takes time, and if i was you, i would give myself another 2 weeks to raise the quality and detail in all features of the painting, except the face. :D
