View Full Version : short on confidence (mini portfolio sample)

Iv'e allways wanted to be a concept artist but never had the confidence to really apply myself. To be honest I'm preatty terrifyed by all the talent out there (Ryan Church, Creig Mullins, Jeremy Jarvis ect.) . I want to become 'acceptable' as a concept artist and build the confidence I need to convince companys that my artwork can be reliable. But I dont really know all that much about the industry itself and what it wants. My style tends to be very cartoony and im working on filling my portfolios with environmentals. For you actually working in concept jobs please tell me if the following stuff is 'acceptable' in the current concept art world. If it isnt, would you mind giving me tips?.

Surprised that no one replied. Anyways very cool stuff you have, reminds me a lot of the art for the Breath of Fire series.

i don't think you've got any reason not to feel confident, your work is great, i like'd the house layout and other rough concept ones and your character are well painted and designed. Just carry on building your portfolio.

Character arts are great. Artist like Ryan Church been painting for least 10 years everyday so don't worry about it and keep practicing.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm hoping to make a go of it as a concept artist, but there's so much astonishing talent and skill out there :P It can be discouraging at times. Keep at it, those characters are awesome. Great form modelling/painting style, I think that will serve you well. Good luck!

Thanks guys, its mostly painting im haveing the troubles with.. i suppose really the only way to get better at environmentals is to try practicing painting patches of places or something.
