Choose a classic scene from the Star Wars Filmed Saga and reinterpret it into a 3d diorama, or better yet think up your own scene using the Star Wars characters from the films.

30 years Star Wars exploded into world cinemas,
and it forever changed the film industry.

On May 25th 1977 Star Wars had it north American release, and
it would grow to be one of the most successful film franchises ever.

THE CHALLENGE:___________________________

Sculpt one or more representations of the Star Wars characters/ creatures in 1 month and two weeks (See the provided list). The idea of this "mini-challenge" is to simulate an impossible deadline for a project. The artists will have at their discretion how detailed the models they will be working on, and the amount of models, and if the models will be shaded/ rigged. But the model will have to be original film interpretation.

A big part of the challenge is that the modeler will have to scavenge all the reference for the film models. But at the end of the challenge the creature/machine have to look like the one shown on film.

They are larger than life movie characters that have taken a life of their own.

There are two ways to participate:

Single character Diorama: You may sculpt the creature inside the appropriate environment.
Some diorama examples:

Storm Trooper on patrol
Luke holding a Lightsaber
The emeperor at the Senate
Darth Maul strikes!

Multiple character Diorama: You may sculpt the creature inside the appropriate environment

Some diorama examples:

The Clone army
The Ewoks vs the Stor Troopers
Luke vs Vader
Jar Jar vs his Thonge
Jango vs Obi wan

THE CHALLENGE:___________________________

Sculpt a scenes based on the Star Wars Film saga.

The idea of this "mini-challenge" is to simulate an impossible deadline for a project. The artists will have at their discretion how detailed the models they will be working on, and the amount of models, and if the models will be shaded and or rigged.

You are encouraged to recreated famous scenes from the Star wars saga

For example

Hand vs Greedo
The Cantina Players
Luke on the Taun Taun
Darth Maul against everyone
Yoda vs Count Dookou
Jango Vs Obi wan
Princess Leia & Jabba
Luke & Yoda
C3po & Chewie on Cloud City
Yoda vs the Emperor
The Emperor & the Senate
Scout Trooper & his Bike
Order 66
Han and Chewie
Anakin vs Obi Wan
Wookies vs Clone Troopers
The HORRIBLE death of Jar jar
or better yet you could created your own scenes based on the classic characters

Death of jar jar
Yoda vs vader
Vader vs the emperor
Stormtroopers playing poker.....
The key is to sculpt good dynamic representations of the Star Wars characters

A big part of the challenge is that the modeler will have to scavenge all the reference for the film models. But at the end of the challenge the character has to look like the one shown on film.

CAN YOU DO IT?

What is the HARDCORE MODELING CHALLENGE?

The idea of these HARDCORE MINI CHALLENGES is to push the modeling skills participants while learning from the past. To get past preconceptions of the limits of digital art. To push digital artists into the world of sculptors & artisans. But we will have variety on these mini challenges. Sometimes we will sculpt a model based on a masterpiece, but on other times we might do Jet fighter or a landmark....

The only thing that will be consistent is the SHORT DEADLINES.

At the end of the challenge, the participant should have a finished collection of entries. Keep in mind contest of high difficulty you will have ONE MONTH and TWO WEEKS to do the challenge, but the rewards, even if you don't win, will be your improved skills in speed and accuracy.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:______________________

Detailed RESEARCH, and attention to detail are key for ALL entries. Please before doing an entry do your homework.

The best model will be selected by an open vote
for these categories:

Most Accurate Likeness
Most epic model
Most expressive model
and the big one of course:

Best Overall Entry
I will also spotlight the users who have done the Highest Number of FINISHED models

The winner will get bragging rights and a small banner
designed by me.

Hey Roberto. I thought I'd point out the part taken from the Ray Harryhausen challenge. Gotta fix this. :D

Btw, awesome challenge! I never get enough time to participate in these. Maybe I'll just have to cut back on sleep this time.

hey roberto I hope that also "inorganic" can count.. Me ans Louis wanted to model the AT scene :) and make a diorama of the attack (and I guess that lot of people want to model tie fighters, death star, etc. etc.) and after all isnt all robot inorganic :) ?

I might be able to squeek in some time on this one after all! I'd hate to pass this one up! I would expect a great turnout on this one too given the subject matter.

Why not!

Again
Why not!

Have fun! But keep in mid that they have to be built in an dramatic diroama setting. Imagine for example an AT-ST being attacked by pissed off Ewoks. Or a Snowspeeder about to be crushed by an AT-AT. The idea of the mini challenge is to capture the drama of the Star Wars saga.

I understand why you made this into a regular challenge, I mean two weeks is a little steep...

but I thought this was gonna be a mini challenge (meaning 2 weeks)... if that is not the case then I may be able to work in one of my own...

PS we are allowing textures right?

Hey Roberto i would like to suggest something for the next hardcore modellings to come, i think that alot of the entries comes after the post in the front page, and since its only happens like 5 to 6 days after the post is made on the hardcore modelling forum, i think its abit unfair with those that didnt know about the comp in the first place.
I think you could change the rules for the next ones so the comp only starts after the announcement is made on the front page, for the extra 4 to 5 days in a comp that runs for 40 days is like a 10% extra time :P.

Jabba the Hutt and his slave girl Princess Leia Organa (?) *Evil Grin*
I'd love to but I'm not sure I see myself getting it finished..
A month and 2 weeks?

Would love to someday any case *think* *puzzle* :curious:

* EDIT *

http://www.freewebs.com/webscriptz/leia%5Fbikini.jpeg

"Stay away from my footage, you freak!"

Now someone tell me Carrey Fisher doesn't still look like a sex symbol, 80's or not ;)
Maybe if I find reference I can start on the Princess and if I find time I'll get to Jabba and then if
I find reference and time get on to some movie set of sorts..

yeah it's not much time to do a diarama and make it look good... not unless one pairs up with someone that is... I'd love to see an option to do just a character withhout the whole scene/environment thingy like it the previous challenges... then again an environment might just be the floor ;)

This is an awesome challenge. I might actually try this as my first. Maybe one day we can have a challenge with all the characters from any book or graphic novel. There are some amazing looking characters from the Star Wars saga's.....Darth Bane would be my favorite....Thrawn would be another awesome one. :deal:

Hey Roberto,

Does the character have to be from one of the movies listed? Can it be from the expanded universe? I Would like to do Darth Malak, who appeared in the Knight of the old republic game for the xbox, and he has been in comics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darth_Malak

Thanks,

well, he says you can make up your own scene... one that is not necisarrily from the movies... but using people or objects from the movies.... leading one to think that expanded universe might be ok....since you can make up scenes... why not use expanded universe stuff...

But....then again, since this is the aniver. of the Movie...I would think that we should stick to the stuff from the original movie "A New Hope" in the spirit of the ocassion.

As much of a fan as I am of both the original and the expanded....I'd sorta liek to see it limited to the original...again, just for the "Spirit" of the ocassion...but thats just me

Though... under the examples are Ideas from all 6 films....

Depends on how you look at it, I guess. My perspective is that there are sooo many cool things to focus on in the Star Wars universe, so it's a little sad to see so many Fett's and Falcons :(

I want to finish my entry quickly so I can try to do another.. so many cool things that nobody picked up.. Jaba's sail barge, the Sarlac pit, the freakin Rancor, Original trilogy Palpatine, Luke in a Storm Trooper uniform, the carbonite processing facility from ESB, Vader's super star destroyer, the Ewok tree village, Yoda's hut on Dagobah, the list goes on and on. And that's just from the movies, if you include the games, canonized books and comics... it's a veritable bottomless well of inspiration and subject matter.

So yeah.. regardless, this is still by far the best HCM challenge yet, and the final submissions will be outstanding.. no doubt about it.

Perhaps 30 Star Wars models in 30 days as a hardcore challenge solves the problem... :D

But seriously, eldee is right; Star Wars is such a big thing, it's crazy to see a lot of "doubles" (guilty me as a Fett-modeller included). But for me it was the first thing that came to mind that was hard, but doable within the time given (at least, that's what i hope). Nevertheless, i like the healthy competition partly thanks to the doubles. It gives some people the "boost" to let their model stand out of the rest.

And of course, with Star Wars as theme, you can't go wrong. I'm enjoying every thread up to now and i hope we can all make some unbelievable results!

Oh yeah, and may the force be with you!
