You can use the Proximal shader for this. Attach a material with Proximal to an object and drag the same object into the object list of the Proximal shader. Then switch on Use Vertices and Use Edges. Tweak Start and End Distance parameters for the wire thickness and smoothness. Check the attached file (CinemaR10). Works only with polygon objects.

I put the Proximal shader into the alpha channel so that I could see hidden lines. problem is that its VERY slow to render.
Is that the nature of proximal?

yeah, i did the same thing. i doubt it's any slower than the wireshader however.

The more polygons the slower Proximal gets. Nothing you can do about it.

I just put out a new plugin that can do wireframes. It's also really fast. Check it out here. (http://www.biomekk.com/index.php?page=1&cat=107&itm=18)
Also, if it doesn't absolutely have to be a shader you could try putting your object into an Atom Array.

Another method w/o plugins is to use EDGE TO SPLINE. Render times seem decent enough.:)

the atom array worked perfectly!
still very interested in your plugin though... the SoftEdge feature looks to be VERY useful.
thanks
