View Full Version : Messiah Workstation 2.5c crashes suddenly

I am new to Messiah and I am going through the Joe Cosman body rigging tutorials, using Messiah studio workstation 2.5c (updated from 2.2b) "standalone" and have experienced a few sudden crashes with a window popping up stating something to the effect that "Messiah.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close, sorry for the inconvenience".

I am using Windows XP PC with 3.4 GHz processor with 2 gigs RAM; Messiah is installed on a separate drive (dual boot PC) to avoid possible program conflicts, along with LW 9.2; nVidia Quadro FX1400 video card 128 MB RAM. I set the nVidia card to "Maya" profile as suggested in another post in this forum.

Should I uninstall the older (original) 2.2b Messiah workstation program, and leave just 2.5c? The crashes seemed to have occurred when I was doing something that was not specific to the "tab" I was in - such as clicking on & attempting to move/change size of bones in the "file" tab, for example.

Are there preferences or config files I can delete that may be corrupted? (Real familiar to doing that occasionally with LW) I have found only one config file specifically labeled "Messiah" in the hard drive's Documents & Settings folder (separate from the LW configs).

If I recall correctly, I think the last several updates said to uninstall messiah before installing the new version. Check the readme file again.

Thanks Rick. The "readme" gave me the impression to run the 2.5c installer with the "older" version still on the hard drive; the point being to let the installer create a new folder for 2.5c:

Important Notes for 2.5c: ?a) Do not install over your previous version. * The default install of 2.5c will create a new folder (messiahstudioWS2.5c) in Program Files\pmG. ?b) 3D Studio Max users: *When you get to the ReadMe (after the "accept license") make sure you scroll down to see some important info!?c) Access the messiah documentation from the File context menu (right-click on the File tab).?d) Move your content and documentation folders from your last version to the 2.5c version folder.?e) The ReadMe in your pmG folder contains the revision notes for this version.

I copied the content & documentation folders over to the 2.5c version. I will try deleting the 2.2b installation and see what happens.
