Hey everyone, im going to try to enter this challenge. I kind of know how to do this stuff so it'll be a help. For the compositing ill be using after effects, and for the 3d i'll be using electric image with maybe some max. As for concept ill be using Feng Zu's ideas (for insipration of course) and for the bg plate i'll be using one from this (http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/~komarek/notwork/kauai/kauai2.html)
site. Only if this was in July i could've used my own pics from hawaii

anyways, here is the non colorcorrected blank BG plate

and heres the basic concept of the picture using some of Feng Zu's art

the huts are part of where the scientists live, that falicity on the back is where they do their actual testing and sendin the information "home". And those are exhaust pipes for the different tests.

Looks like an awefully long walk to my quarter on the other side of that "mountain" ;)
Nice. :D

It seems like a nice concept, but when it comes time to animate it, how are you going to do the waves?

That seems like it'd be tough to pull off, but maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Ciao

haha, yep the waves thought about it last night. What i am going to end up doing is masking out the waves and add CG waves with particles from max. Also what i might end up doing is make this a night shot to help make the ocean less visible

i've been working on my smoke stack today. Im pretty happy because the top is the first time i ever used poly modeling on my own in max and it turned out correctly, and i figured out the HDRI lighting dome.

I was just testing the smoke there, i used particles, but im going to try to use the fog next time, or maybe a plugin from blur.

O btw ill probably end up using max for this project, not electric image.

of course the model doesnt have any textures applied yet.
