View Full Version : Fluid Clouds tutorials?
D_Nice 03-15-2003, 04:38 AM Has anyone come across any good tutorials on making photo realistic clouds and skies. I'm going to be doing a sky replacement for a compositing project and could use the help.
Thanks.

I dont know if this will help but you could load up some of the cloud presets from your visor and take a look at their attributes to see how they were made. I haven't seen any fluid effects tuts on clouds

Good point Tom N. Your best bet it to load a preset, Tweak it or study it. You can get some realistic resulsts with the presets! Im suprised theres no tutorials on this yet, but when there there is..its gonna be a popular site.:wip:

Hey thanks for the tip Tom.
I've been toying around with the clouds for my sky replacement. When I get it to a level that I'm happy with, I'll post my results and share any experiences that helped shape the clouds into what they become.

Okay to make GREAT looking coulds you need to use a static grid and use textures.
To do this make a container the size you wants and give it a heap of resolution (tweak to get good look to performance ratio).
Select the container and add contents with a gradient then select constant density in the fluids attribute edditor under the "contents method" tab.
Set all the other attributes off such as temp etc etc but leave density as is.
Open up the texture tab in the fluids attributes and select "texture opacity" and then choose billow you can try the others but i think billow looks the best but its the slowest and now tweak :applause:
Also try playing with the ramp which controls density under the shading options, make sure this is set to density.
Make sure you have HARDWARE SHADING on in the viewport to see whats going on.
Try playing with self shadows and colours etc.
Have fun :bounce:
