View Full Version : rendering character with their cast shadows
blurgh 05-16-2007, 01:18 PM Hey guys,
hopefully a quick easy question;
I was wondering if its possible to render a character with the shadows he casts on the enviroment but not actually rendering the enviroment it self?
i would run a search, but it seems broken at the moment!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Cheers Guys

Which program?
In 3dsMax this would be possible using a Matte/shadow material for the environment.

yes ofcourse u can do that.
If u r using maya apply use background shader to the environment and If u want just the characters shadow separately u need to turn off the cast shadow of the environment.No matter how many objects are ther ein the environment. And turn off the primary visibility off for the character.. U ll get the shadow separately with alpha.. Hope that helped.. u can follow the same procedure in max aswell. Instead u use matte shadow shader to the environment.
hope that helped
