Hello all

I do all my modeling on Cinema4D on the mac - now I got a question to make models for a game, which have to be converted to .mdl (not the AnimationMaster but Quake format) .md2 or .x formats (all Windows based)

Does anyone know of any Mac conversion utility that would be capable of doing this - and otherwise a Windows utility that takes 3dStudio files that I can export from C4D and convert those - I might be able to run such a conversion program under VirtualPC? hopefully?

Best would be some freeware or shareware, since I first want to test if it works at all, and see what happens to textures

All help appreciated!!!

btw 8.1 rocks, doesn't it???

Cheers

Hans

I believe that Cinema has native .x export, but I can't help you with the rest. You can get a beta Unreal converter here: http://www.remotion.de.vu/

And yep, 8.1 rocks!

Gee, AdamT (hmm that rhymes..)

you're fast!!! thanx
Does Direct3D export give the .x filetype?? I will have a closer look (just did a quick peep) at Remotions website, to see if that might help me out

thanx!!!!

Yes, .x is the D3D file format. I've never used it as I don't work in games, but I know it's there. I think the manual covers the different features supported in the export modules, so you might give that a look. There may also be something about it in the 8.1 addendum, but I could be wrong about that.

Never done anything for games before myself, so I just looked at the export options from C4D and really haven't even thought of looking in the manual yet, and haven't really gone indeep through the addendum also..

I'll check out the manual and see what I can find about this topic in there - if it really would be a straight conversion... so much the better!!! And otherwise part of the question remains open....

thanx again AdamT!!!

Did a very fast test and yes, it indeed IS the .x format... only problem being that the manual doesn't really say what will happen to the object and it's textures - just says it's of good use for the Windows game industry - but nothing about selections for instance.. what will happen to selection textured parts etc.

Unfortunately C4D doesn't import the file, so no chance to see what really happens...hmmm, that would make for a new question... are there any Direct3D viewers for the Mac that you know of???

also you could try Milkshape (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/)

Hey DeathCarrot

thanks for the link - slight problem is that it's 'only' Windows-based, but I'll try if I can run it under VirtualPC; I'd really like to do the pre-work in Cinema since I'm so used to that, but I'll just take it as it comes...

guys, thanks for the suggestions!!!!

Hi all.

Not the original poster but have the same question.

Basically, modelling some units, tanks etc.. in c4d & tecturing, but can't seem to get the files into milkshape. They only go in without the texture which is pretty useless.

Do I have to export it seperately?
