Hello everyone ! Thanx for your time ..

I'm ashish ... from india..:) well, i have started to self train myself in maya. I'm going through the help .. and have started the basics with modelling & basic animation.

I have downloaded some of the freebies from gnomon site and i 'm going through those also. I just wanted you to guide me as to what is the best learning curve with maya.. is it like i first go thru and learn modelling >> then go to animation >> then to others ?? or is it good to start my learning all of them, as and when required.. ?

I keep seeing your works and questions..i got very much inspired ! thanx !! well i have some previous working experience with 3ds max .. so need to learn MAYA ..fast & last thing >> can any one please tell me what is the method for rendering an AVI ? i rendered avi files but they seem to be wrong somehow  I shall post my starter images and models for you to see and guide me.. thanx again for your valuable time !

:wip:

I think that you should do a little of everything.
Model something, then animate it...and maybe add some dynamics...so you combine all stuff...

Redgarding rendering to AVI.
When I make an animation, I always make each frame a tiff file, and then put it together in a composition program, in my case, Adobe After Effects.
From there you can use divx codecs so they doesn't get so huge. I mean making an AVI direct from Maya without compression resaullt in a 80 mb file for 4 seconds or something like that.

A good thing you can do is to buy a Maya book to get you started.
"Maya 4 Fundamentals" is pretty good (lacks animation training thou, more of that would have made the book even better)

Good luck! :D

Thanks Veqtue ...for your time n your tips ..

yes.. as u said .. i need to grab a book and start studying it ! and about the AVI rendering thing, another doubt is that.. i have DIVX 5.0 codec installed on my PC .. sois it not a good option to try & render an AVI file using this codec through MAYA ??

;)

i have been trying to model using nurbs .. one problem is that i cant seem to get the BOOLEAN action on the two nurbs .. i have say one nurbs sphere >> overlapping a nurbs cube.. when i go & choose the boolean options box..n i try union or intersect option.. i get my cursor changed to a large arrow tip like icon.. and then when i try to click on the sphere.. nothing happens :(

pls... guide me as to whats going wrong with the boolean steps ..

my Thanks to || Deepray ||.. yes i have visited highend.com and zoorender also ...as u suggested, i have downloaded some tuts also... i shall sit and practise these tuts .

thanx for your time .. i shall keep asking more doubts...and request u wonderful people to help me clear them ..

cheers !!

:p

Personally i would recommend learning one thing at a time. Its a more structured and less confusing way to learn.... just spend a month or two in each discipline and then try do them all together with a short animation.

I find if you try to do it all at once you start building problems on problems... can get confusing.

how long did you spend in Max? you might not need to spend that long on each section.

Hello Atulhp,

Nice to meet another Indian here ! well, as yu rightly suggested, i shall buy that book very soon. I think in our city, Mastering Maya 4 hasnt come yet !

:( Last time i enquired, they were having Maya 3 book..well i 'll check out n buy one..

>> || Krugar || <<

Yes , i guess i shall follow your tips .. i'll do one thing at a time and get all these together when required.. I have learnt Max two years ago .. havent worked on it much ... i've been doing all web sites + stuff related to web (flasj , photoshop) only..so i guess my max and Maya skills have to be really built + perfected ... but i have an idea of these concepts. Got to get a good grip on these tools !! Thanx for your time ! :p

Any tips on my NURBS booleans ? thanx in advance >>>>
