looking great
I have no crits at all..
awesome. i remember you posting the original painting. modeling, texturing are very well done.
my only question is - where is the light source coming from? it appears there's light coming thru the forest, but also light (moonlight?) shining down on the well. but i don't see light peeking thru the forest canopy. if there's moonlight, there should be some small shadows being cast on the forest floor...
is your forest 3d, or 2d? either way, it looks incredible. i like the mood you set. could you post a wire?
thanks
disregard last comment on shadows - my monitor was set pretty dark, and i was unable to see the highlights on the leaves - very good job!

I have to say I really enjoy the feel and the look of the picture, makes me feel nice and cool and at the same time makes me want to run from the ocopus of the wising well!

Oh! Oh! LIGHTING-GASM!
Seriously, I love this...those glowing tentacles are really something else. Beautiful, creepy scene.
like i said in the wip thread, awesome setting, i absolutely love the lighting and the "water" thats coming from the well!
could i see another angle?, perhaps the original angle?

nice! since you managed to replicate the ff phantom effect so well, would you mind sharing how with the rest of the class? Might even make a nice tutorial!

ohhh, very nice. I really like the blue lighting as opposed to the orange.
I don't see anything worth changing.

Thanks for the comments. :)
Here's a link to a larger version for anyone that's interested...

Requiem: The material is pretty simple. Raytrace with a falloff in the Opacity and Translucency channels. You could also use a Standard material with a falloff in the Self-Illumination if you want. The only semi-tricky part is the bottom of the tentacles is a repeated gradient ramp in one of the falloff slots. There's also noise in the falloff slots to add some texture. I have a Max .mat file on my site with a material called "Jellyfish" that you can download. This is a modification of that one.

Xeno: Here's a couple other angles. These are straight out of Max with no Photoshop voodoo. And they're not exactly optimized for that particular viewing angle, especially the second one.
