View Full Version : Faceted...quad NOT tri?!

Hi, got a problem.
I want to render my object as a shaded/wired one. A have one object (poly-object) that has a plain white material, and then I have a copy of the object, slightly pushed (push modifier) and a wire-material added to that one - and it alla works fine...
My problem is; In my viewport the faces are all "quads" and shading within these polygons not present...but when I render the scene shading/shadowing within these "poly-object-quads" appear. (see pic) Not nice.
Is there a way to set up the material, render or subdivisions-panel so that the rendered picture will look like the viewport-render?!
Or...can I just get antialiasing + a white background in my viewport - the thing would be solved.

Thanx in advance...

Seems that the problem is with smoothing groups. If you ably smooth modifier to your object, i think you can get those "artifacts" away. Just check autosmooth and try some different angles. Should be working.

or just add the smooth modifier on the stack, does the same thing really, with less control.
fine for a totally smooth object where smoothing groups wont change.

I donīt want the object smooth really. I want it faceted...but I want the facets to be QUADS (left pic) not TRI (right pic). I know the quads in the polygon-object in MAX actually consists of triīs but does not show these...and thatīs exactly what I want in my rendered pic!
But I will look into the smoothing group thing to come up with ideas maybe...

I think it's impossible. The renderer just does a convertion to tri faces for all the geometry in the scene(nurbs, pathes and editable poly).

This shloud solve the problem (some artifacts may occur:-()

Go to poly level selection, select all polys and in Polygon Property rollout set "Autosmooth angle to 0" then click Autosmooth...

That solved it! And the artefacts youīre talking about did not occur. Not this time at least...
