Excellent work man, love the snappyness as the trap shuts. Not to mention combining toony elements (motion, colors, shapes, sound) with a truly voilent twist, much more amusing then a typical ending.

And cool use of visuals for the blood and guts... nice and wet.

Only crit would be his right foot/ankle right before he falls on the trap. It stays up at a 45 degree angle even when the weight shifts to it, then it does plant it forces a weird hyper extension.

Heh...yea that's the part I most dislike about the piece...even though I guess I was satisfied with it in the end, it still looks awkward to me but I couldn't figure out how to pose him so that it would look any more natural....having thought about it more though I think you're right about him reaching out too far...maybe if he were squinting a bit more too in that pose you could see the tension better.

...oh and good call on the face through the cheese! :O :O :(

As for the guts....simple! Most of them are reactor rope simulations, then after calculating the dynamics on the splines, I selected random groups of vertices to apply a "push" modifier to which gave them that bulgy look in some places. The rest were cloth dynamics on simple geometry which I did the push thing to as well :)

Hey guys! Thanks for all of the replies and for the frontpage plug! Much appeciated!

So I was pondering today about how that moving hold could be improved (the first reach towards the cheese). I thought it might have been better if he did a quick "rolling up his invisible sleeves" motion first and then immediately went to the 2nd reach. What do you guys think? I won't change it at this point, but I figured it was a good mental exercise to come up with a different approach ;)

Hey ManuelM, I'm living in NZ but still working for MAKE as a long-distance contractor of sorts :)...keep your eye out for new stuff on MAKE's site since we've done a whack of really fun projects lately that are in their final stages before being but online :D

Great work, I really enjoyed the sound effects that were added, they went very well with the rest of the scene and weren't at all distracting (IMO). Entrails and Liquids were very nicely done. Very nice animation on the trap as well as the mouse.

Ironically, when I was doing the sound edit I did search for some stomach grumbling sounds to cut in there, but I couldn't find any good ones and I don't have a microphone so I just left them out.....good call though!

The way it kept building, I knew something was going to happen.....A bit bloody for my tastes but the poisoned cheese was a good idea.
And the animation was top notch. Overall a great piece of work.

Quite nice, though I was visually startled (with an actual intake gasp on first viewing) at the splatter, it just seemed so out of place. But i guess that was the intent.

One comment though, it didnt read to me at all that the mouse was lactose intolerant and his nausea stumbled him into the trap. When he got the cheese, took his bite, and turned green I immediatly thought "clever clever, rig mouse traps to fail to give mice overconfidence, but then poison the cheese!". When I saw the lactose reference I was left thinking "huh?".

Not tryin to be negative so if i come off that way sorry. Lactose intolerance isnt like food poisoning, its when you cant digest milk sugars, thus you get gassy since the bacteria in your intestine is getting at it.

IMHO I think that is a non-issue because you have the mouse turn green, if you are very lactose intolerant then you could throw up if you body rejects it that badly, and you then have the mouse hold his stomach which could also be interpreted in a quick gass effect... of course you could have had the mouse feel ill with stomach pain, fart a very diahreahry fart pushing him towards the mouse trap and then *THWAAAAAAAPPPPP* *SPLAT* *SPLURT*

But then I guess I have a sicker mind :)
