View Full Version : change target Help file destination
rodney71 05-11-2007, 09:24 PM I'd like to be able to alter which file gets called up by the "Help/Help (cinema4d)..." menu command. is there a way to do this...maybe buried in a string of code somewhere?
i created a pdf package that i'd like to call up instead of the basic reference guide. that way i have all my manuals for plugins and everything in one PDF document. would be a great way to go.

don't think you can change the applications call, but if you have the acrobat reader plugin for your OS browser (safari or IE, not firefox etc) then you should be able to hack the main page file to open pdf. You do lose all functionality of the show help function though. What I'd do is simply add a link in the main page to open the PDF in the browser.

What I did was just add link to the first page that comes up on Help. So if you edit the 1010.html file to add the line, <p><a href="My PDF.pdf" target="">My PDF</a></p>, you will see a link to My PDF. Then all you gotta do is drop your My PDF.pdf file into the html folder and it will show up in the help window.

I suppose a quick and dirty way might be to simply rename the Cinema manual that's called out and rename your pdf with the exact name of the original manual called out and place it inside the correct folder. I pulled those out myself a long time ago, so don't recall exact names or locations, but should be easy enough.

Try the 3DAttack OLX plug-in. You can access any specified PDF folder from a single button.
It is capable of listing up to 10 master folders.

That looks ideal Alan, and i have the OLX plugin. but i can't find the question mark icon shown in your image nor the command that deals with manuals/pdfs. Am i missing something or is that perhaps not actually part of OLX but something else?
if someone could tell me the actual file name and location of the help file that is called up by R9.6 that may work for me. i don't seem to have that right so nothing happens when i select help from the menu.

Use the C4D Command Manager and add the OLX icons into a suitable menu.
(Usual save Menu & Layout applies.)
Once loaded into your layout, click the OLX Configure/ Settings button, that's the Blue Cross on White button.
A multi tab panel with folder destinations under each tab will open.
Select the 'Launch Help' tab. Click on the end button for 'Folder 01' and navigate to either a PDF folder or specific PDF Manual. Use the other buttons as required for different folders.
Close the panel, and when you click on the OLX? icon the dropdown menu it will show something as in my original screen-shot.
HTH. Cheers, Alan.

and there doesn't seem to be any link to it over at 3DAttack anymore to check out if there was an update i missed. too bad.

Hi Rod,
I have OLX v.1.6 running on 9.6 (Mac UB & PPC) and think there was a UB revision for R.10.
Both these versions have the Load Help button.
Maybe contact Chris directly at Biomekk.com.
It may(?) have beeen discontinued due to the Browser update in R.10.
Good luck, Alan.
