View Full Version : Rhino -->>>>> Maya
kpalazov 01-04-2002, 09:18 AM Well I recently dowloaded the evaluation of RHino 2 and have been having some trouble with the conversion from rhino to maya 4.
NOw I tried IGES works great but I cant texture and my renders come out horrible.
Then I tried OBJ for ALias but I get nothing.
I'm trying to pass over a car that I have modelled for texturing.
Is it possible to do this successfully and if so how can it be done?
Also is this more possible in max?
Any help would be greatly appricated.

Not having used Rhino before, but I would say because it's an eval version, the export functionality is not included.

NOp actually RHino has full functionality . THe catch is that only 25 saves and exports are allowed. ANd theres a 30 day limit all together. Something like that.
Busted ? I don't use pirate soft:(

What do mean with "you can't texture"?
Apply a shader with a texture map and presto. Once imported, Rhino NURBS surfaces do not differ from Maya's NURBS surfaces in the slightest way.
One thing regarding surface domains: Rhino's surfaces are chord-length parameterized by default. That means their u/v-domains are adjusted to match the respective dimensions of the surface in world space.
You can reparameterize them to have their domains span the 0..1 interval which is often more convenient for Maya. Look up the Rhino online-help on this for more info.
The command is called 'ReparametrizeSrf'; just enter '0' as "new u/v begin" and '1' as "new u/v end".

Yep your exactley right I just tried again and the renders are great... yeh
WHat I don't understand is the command you povided is that used within maya or Rhino - BOth say they cannot recognise the command.
But anyways thanks for bringing that too my attention. I nearly gave up on Rhino. now I might go and buy it.
Do you use Rhino in cingjuction with maya, if so could you tell me the pros and cons.
Thanks alot

It was a typo -- it's 'ReparameterizeSrf'.
In Rhino, of course
