I love it, its got character. The only thing i would change is the eyes texture, so that you can change his mood if you need to. Maybe the half sphere with the star shape at the jaw can be the actual eye.

Would look great when animated with some screatchy metal sounds on.

This very much my kinda thing, very cool!!
Have you seen James and the Giant Peach? I love the mechanical shark in that.
Not sure about the composited pic though, it doesn't seem to be sitting right. I'd like to see a background custom made, maybe with coral reefs and other small fish made of old metal too. Other inhabitants might also help to give it a sense of scale. A mechanical octopus or squid would kick ass!

Anyway, it looks really good, nice job with the textures and very orginal design.

However, the composit pic makes it look really small, about the size of a goldfish. I am sure that is not what you wanted :)
