View Full Version : Using movie as Background
gildattack 05-09-2007, 07:08 PM Hi,
i have the following tiny problem. I apply a movie (rendered in AE) to my background object. I also add a plane as a floor and apply the same movie in 'frontal' mode (compositing tag with compositing background 'on' also).
The problem is that when i render this scene, my background looks like it has a 1 o 2 px gaussian blur... Anybody knows why?

Disable the MIP Mapping for the texture interpolation, just set it to "None" provided that you're rendering to the same size, otherwise use something like "Circle", or simply reduce the MIP radius.

Just Curious but if you have After effects why not just do a compsite there??

because i use cinema's shadows casting onto the floor, along with AO. I also get a really diferent result when transparency and reflection interacts with the background and objects in the scene.

If you want quicker playback in the viewer I also recommend using an image sequence instead of a QT movie somehow this plays alot quicker then any QT.

Understood
Carry on sir

hey,
me again. Though i'm setting the sampling to none or circle it remains the same... that is with a little blur. Any idea why?

This is probably a longshot.. I once had trouble rendering background movie, because I needed a codec. For my dv encoded video, even though it played as usual in the movie players, for render in cinema I needed to have installed the panasonic dv codec (you can google it), otherwise it rendered in a much lower quality! Maybe it's something similar.

anti-aliasing is also applied through the rendering process (as set in the render settings) so unless both the texture interpolation AND render AA is set to none then your image will be resampled slightly.
you will need to do this via compositing your cinema elements back over the original footage in AE to get this working correctly.

i understand simon thanks.

i understand simon... i'll try some alternative via 'force antialiasing' in the compositing tag and let you know if anything changes for good. Thanks.

unfortunately i don't think this will work out for you - you can only force AA when using best AA (and both best and geometry use a certain amount of filtering on the rendered images).
as far as i know the only way you will get this to work is to render in layers (i.e. FG elements with the BG set to be invisible to the camera but visible top reflection refraction) and to then render a separate shadow only pass (black on white) that you multiply over the bg in AE.
cheers, simon w.

Simon, ok. Thanks for the advice. Maybe i'll try to assign an ID to the background and see if i can replace it later.
