I am looking into doing a stream of light effect in maya, having a light start from one point and travel to another point and be able to see an arc path it makes as it goes moving and dissipating as it travels, like a glowing dust, probably some kind of particles attached to it?

Anyway, if anyone can point me to some tutorial close to that, i am still searching without any luck so far, or if anyone can hint me on basics of how i would approach an effect like that. I imagine i would be using a light source attached to a curve and particles?

Thanks

Luis

I am not a light fx expert but I think Light Fog training DVD is covering your need - http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/ren04.html -

There was an animated effect with noise and lightfog - it looks like particles attached to it but it's not. Done with lightfog and noise.

Sorry couldn't helped much... :(
