Title: Hellfire Widow
Name: Zoltan Korcsok
Country: Hungary
Software: Modo, Photoshop, ZBrush
It was made for the Hellfire Widow Contest organized by Subdivisonmodeling.com. (I. Place) Base models were made with Modo, it was sculpted with ZBrush and was textured with Modo-Photoshop-ZBrush.
My original idea was to model an anatomically correct spider (as far as possible) and to render a photorealistic picture from it.
The base mesh was made with box modeling, and the sculpting was done with Pixologic ZBrush. There are nine maps on the spider mesh: diffuse, diffuse amount, specular amount, specular color, displacement, bump, subsurface amount, subsurface color, transparent amount. The fur was made with meshpaint in Modo.

...the spider, but the branch seems very underdetailed in comparison. The texture is fine to me, but using displacement map instead or perhaps modeling a few details would take this image to perfection!

Wow... so full of details!
Great materials and phantastic
render... Very clean and good!
Thumbs up! 4*
Nice macro lenses shot!! the scene was very well built! Very photoreal. Try to send it to National Geographic, they could create a 3d section on the magazine:)
cheers,
gusss
Nice job - if it were bigger (pic) I'd desktop it!

Looks absolutely fantastic! Had I seen these renders anywhere but here I'd swear they were photos. The transparency/sss on the legs really amps up the illusion.
Superb work. No crits at all. Just very inspiring.

Again, fantastic job Trurl! :D Gotta say, the way you presented your work and materials along with the zbrush work really pushed my vote. Very creepy realistic render. :)

amazing, and great process images. the only thing that bugs me... is that some areas of the legs are blurry and the branch are in focus. it does not blend the way a real photo would. I would recommend a 1px blur on the branch immediately around where the blurry leg it.
this rocks!

Szia!
Nagyon szuper a pók!
A fa ág túl sima szerintem, de a pók nagyon részletes! Gratulálok!
Én is gondolkoztam egy pókon, de lehet, h valami rovar lesz a vége.

Wonderful! Only suggestion would be to make the branch a tad more organic in shape - the texture is excellent but the solid, hard edge makes it look like CG. Keep up the great work!!

Very subtle modeling, and I like the attention you paid to the details (members transluency, fur...) Overal a great job. I almost prefer the render from under though..

it will be better if you post big resollution one .to WATCH all nine parameters on the spider mesh: diffuse, diffuse amount, specular amount, specular color, displacement, bump, subsurface amount, subsurface color, transparent amount.
thanks for post parameter images of this.

The best CG I've seen so far, and I look VERY closely. Romain3d asked already and I'd like to know as well; which render program did you use. By the way, you needed the branch to look a little less real than the spider, or else we'd be fooled! Wowwah, vay naaasss!Great Job!
Trurl
10-01-2007, 06:39 PM
romain3d, Eurofiles: The whole scene was rendered with Modo 203, the DOF wasn't added afterwards.
ashrafahmed: I've put images of the nine maps in the 15th post.
