View Full Version : Noob Question regarding Hi-Poly sculpting
bbox85 05-09-2007, 04:45 PM Alright, I'm just now getting started with hi-poly sculpting and I have a few questions that I'm sure many of you can answer. In ZBrush or Mudbox, how is someone able to do hardsurface modeling? Such as modeling the gears and plates on a mech or peice of armor. Or is that part done in max, maya, or whatever other 3d application you're using? Because I've been messing around with mudbox and I have a rudemantary understanding of how to achieve the look of organic objects; however, I don't know how to do so with and geometric, hard surfaced objects. Help anybody?

One of the ways ive played around with acomplishing this is, when using mudbox,
try using the flatten tool for the sides and larger faces of an object. Then run the pinch brush along the edges of the object for that fine crease.

Yeah, most hard-surface stuff is done inside the 3D package rather than the scultping package.
Though like 4 low says, you can usually get some pretty good results with the pinch and flatten tools.
